Why would SJS trade for an older player?

I actually think brodie would be able to come into our system and work out pretty well. I think an ideal contract for him would be ~1.5 for a year. He logged a lot of minutes last year and with a little more sheltered minutes here i think he'd be a solid bottom pair to mentor a young guy like malinski.
With that being said i'd prefer a little more physical veteran on the bottom pair if i had my choice though

Kind of hard to mentor a guy if youre taking their spot. A younger Brodie would really fit well with the Avs. I'd rather let Malinski learn than give Bednar an over the hill vet he can over use. I think my issue is more with Bednar than Brodie lol
