Future of the Flames

Description
Trade Kuzmenko, Sharangovich mid season. If Colorado calls for Kadri you trade him for everything they're worth. Coleman too if the chance arises. These are pieces for a contender that is not in Calgary at the moment. Move them so Calgary can bring up its younger players properly.

Détails additionnels:
I truly believe that this trade will work. Markstrom gives NJ the opportunity to reopen their window that suddenly shut on them last year. Mangiapane had one of the worst seasons of production in his career but his underlying statistics are pretty good and I think he will bounce back next season. I think the Flames would be more than willing to take on Holtz. He hasn't worked at NJ and desperately needs a change of scenery. Holtz can slot right into the RW on the Flames where the team is very weak in terms of players, giving him the opportunity to thrive. If all else fails NJ isn't left out to dry in the first round and will still have a pick, just not some 18yr old who cannot help them now.

Retain on Naz and the leafs will take him back
Zero shot the Devils trade goes? 11th overall for a 28th and Markstrom back and trading Holtz for Mangipane, maybe get a different piece out if NJ but not the 11th in a deep draft

A goalie who will be 35 before the next playoffs is not a wanted solution for a team that expects to compete for the cup for the next 10+ years. Markstrom was the only option available at the TDL last season and thats not the case now. NJ wants a minimum of 5 years of quality goaltending from whoever they get. I'd be astounded if Markstrom could provide 2 years. NJ will not move valuable assets for a temporary solution

Given how poorly Conroy handled the Markström deal last TDL, and how badly he behaved towards Fitzgerald and Markström themselves, I don't think there's any chance that Fitzgerald will deal with the Flames again in the near future.

I wouldn’t take on Markstrom and Mangiapane for 12 million dollars on their own, let alone pay a top 10 pick and holtz

This speculation keeps getting worse.

The way I understand it the Flames wanted a good asset for retaining $3M for 3 years. That was the sticking point. Fitz thought it was too much, so the deal fell through. If Fitz remains butt hurt about it, then that's his choice, but it seems counter productive for a GM.

The only bad feelings were because Markstrom was asked about NJ, and he agreed in principle and then the deal fell through.

Markstrom was upset because there were constant trade roumors despite his NMC, because that's a Canadian market for you, and because the deal fell through after he thought it was imminent.

Feel free, to present more than speculation to prove me wrong.

Deal all but confirmed to be in place for Markström, and announcement of imminent departure from Calgary in front of his teammates: https://fullpresshockey.com/2024/04/22/jacob-markstrom-all-but-confirms-he-was-heading-to-new-jersey/
Fitzy thought he had a deal in place, presumably (most certainly) for Markström (first 2 mins of interview): https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=144&v=UIZrsQNO9vE&embeds_referring_euri=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.reddit.com%2F&feature=emb_title

Is it not obvious to you that Conroy and / or Flames ownership have acted in a very unprofessional manner here?

Fitz thought he had a deal for a top goalie, he didn't. That's one side of things, and he doesn't blame anyone there for being unprofessional.

As for Marky, it's just obvious to me that Markstrom is a passionate guy that was upset by the situation. It checks out if you watched him in post game interviews after losses. "Obviously I'm here" can also be interpreted in multiple ways.

Anyways I'm just not seeing it the same way you do. Especially since I didn't hear any other complaints about Conroy, despite the Flames being pretty active on the trade front this year.
