Hawks dont need isle's to retain any money, but it is going to take much more than a 6th round pick for the hawks to take JGP for 2 years.

Strong disagree; Varlamov is a huge upgrade in net compared to the horrendous Korpi/Forsy duo from last season and, unlike Sogaard, can actually play NHL-level hockey. 2.75m for the next 3 years isn't terribly hard to stomach either.

That said - ain't no way he waives his NTC to come to Ottawa lol.

Varlamov will be 37 years old with 2 years left on his deal at $2.75M. Ottawa would be getting older, and if Varlamov craps the bed that will be 2 goaltenders we can't move. Factor in Ottawa's prospect cupboard is completely diminished, they canh't afford to be giving a 2nd round pick for a 37 year old goalie with term. Holmstrom had one okay year and will be wanting $2M on his next contract. Ottawa doesn't need 3rd and 4th liners. Once Pinto is signed, or 3rd and 4th lines will likely look like this;

Greig - Pinto - Joseph
Crookshank - Kastelik - UFA (cheap PK player) or they re-sign Katchouk for league minimum. If the Isles wanted to trade Varlamov for Forsberg and a 4th? That could work

You’re forgetting Kelly in the b6 and I think pinto should be in a top 6 role. I get what you’re saying aboht Varlomov but he’s not even making 3mil and for 2 years I think I’m fine taking the chance. If he ****s the bed a buyout won’t be too much either

CHI isn't paying for JGP.

I saw some chatter today about Yamamoto's RFA rights for Pageau, a third, and a prospect today. Pageau is something Seattle needs but not at 5M/year. Sorry, forget the source but that does sound like a Ron Francis type trade.

-Moving Palmieri makes no sense. He's only got one more year left at $5M and he's good for 25-30 goals. You're basically paying Tyler Toffoli an extra $1.45M with two extra years of term to give you nearly the exact same thing: Palmieri was 30-24-54 in 82 GP this year and Toffoli was 33-22-55 in his 79 GP.

-I feel like I'd rather keep Holmstrom with Clutterbuck & Martin probably leaving; and swapping Varlamov out to bring Hogberg up as the #2 goalie is a major downgrade. Personally, I don't think that's worth giving up for an early 2nd rounder and a late 4th rounder - and I don't think Varly waives for Ottawa regardless.

-Easy pass for Utah. Wahlstrom has minimal value, and I don't think think they move Schmaltz for #18OA and that 5th rounder.

-It's just me, but I'm not interested in Mangiapane. He's looked very ordinary now that the shooting percentage gods have abandoned him; I think I'd sign him for $2.5-$3M but I wouldn't want to give up that high of a pick for him, considering that you're adding value for the retention Calgary is giving you on an overpriced contract.

-Keep that $500K retention and give Chicago something of value for taking Pageau's deal off your hands - I don't think they're going to care about whether they're eating 2x$4.5M or 2x$5M, they're going to care about the asset they're getting to do that.
