Would rather just put Necas at center

Slavin’s extension is a top priority for the team after FA is done. Why in the world wouldn’t we extend him?

Well if you read my question, i asked if they decide they don't want to. Maybe he asks for too much money or term. He will be 31 when the extension kicks in and the Hurricanes haven't paid anyone over 30 much.

I really think they will sign him and he'll be a Hurricane for life, but if talks go sideways this summer and the Hurricanes cover their losses by finding a younger LHD, I wouldn't be out of this world shocked.

I would be beyond shocked if they let him walk. He’s one of the best defensive players in the league and the heart and soul of the team. Some guys they let walk bc they see a realistic replacement for him at a cheaper price. Slavin is irreplaceable in my eyes.

This will be controversial knowing you but they let Hamilton and Trocheck walk and although they weren't here for very long and were traded for, those guys become franchise pieces had you signed them.

Pesce is definitely a franchise piece that they're going to let walk. You could argue Skjei and Teuvo became that, the same as Trocheck and Dougie.

hamilton was pretty overrated and going to age very poorly (already has). Unlike slavin on both accounts

My point is that the Hurricanes haven’t re-signed very many of their big UFA’s. Slavin probably gets signed but i was just trying to say that there’s a 5% chance that they let him walk or trade him, and acquire someone younger.

That leaves a 95% chance that he gets signed to an extension. Seems pretty good but maybe not enough for you?
