Seeking Feedback on Trade Cost

Description
Seattle's number one priority this offseason is to improve their goalscoring, which regressed hard this past season. Free agency is one avenue to get some more scorers in the building, but the trade market is another good option. Below are three forwards rumored to be potentially on the move; my question for the fans of their current teams is, what would you be looking for in return from the Kraken? I'm gauging feedback to see if pursuing a trade of some kind would be preferable to attempting a free agent splash.

  1. Necas, Martin [Droits de RFA]
Détails additionnels:
Pros: Just hitting his prime and fits with Seattle's young core from their first few drafts, will have a noticeable impact both at ES and on the PP.

Cons: Inconsistent defensively, trade cost will be high, contract demands might not line up with recent production.

      1. Laine, Patrik
      Détails additionnels:
Pros: Talented goalscorer with a rocket shot, trade cost will likely be lighter than the other trade options, decent buy low candidate.

Cons: Inconsistent effort at times, rest of his game aside from goalscoring is below average, cap hit doesn't line up with current production.

Necas would probably cost a high-end prospect preferable a center and I have my eye on David Goyette specifically

There's many differences of opinion as to what assets the Jackets need most right now. There's logjams at D and wing, and C is already overstocked as well. That would seem to suggest goaltending is the need (especially with how Elvis is doing), but Tarasov and Greaves both look pretty good. The prospect pool is extremely deep and of high quality (top-3 in the League), so we're not searching for picks either.

About the only regularly agreed-upon constant - and even then it's only a little better than half the time - is a need for more Skilled Mentor types. Guys who can show the kids we're developing the right way to play, while taking up higher spots in the lineup so that they're actually taken seriously. Right now we've basically got Boone and that's it. We don't need the typical bottom-pairing/bottom-6 guys who are frequently thereby available; Gudbranson and Kuraly have that covered.

I'm in the camp that feels that the defense, having not performed well, would be the best place to go for an upgrade - I am absolutely craving us getting a good quality second-pairing (or better) experienced defensive defenseman. So that'd be my goal. In Seattle's case, that probably means Larsson, which I suspect is a non-starter owing to being somewhat irreplacable at the moment. Oleksiak might also work but I'm not sure he'd be enough for a Laine trade (we're not going to be selling him as anything less than a top-line scoring winger, because there's no hurry to get rid of him and no pressure).

Bringing back Bjorkstrand might also do, although that'd be more in the interest of appeasing those of us fans who wish we never lost him. smile

I'd say he's adjusted quite nicely to being a Kraken. Bjorky's point production dipped in his first season here, although that was mainly due to an unsustainably low shooting percentage. Even in the midst of that he formed a formidable line with Gourde and Tolvanen and was a big part of why Tolvanen broke out after arriving. In last season's postseason run he stepped up big time and sealed the deal against Colorado in Game 7.

2023-24 was a return to form for Bjorky scoring wise, and he's probably been the Kraken's most reliable forward besides McCann. It was nice to see him get an All-Star game nod. I consider him a key part of the forward group now, and I doubt they'll be willing to let him go anytime soon.

Maybe Larsson and a 2nd-3rd equivalent for Ehlers
