Does Holtz need to be a part here? I dont know abut Santo, so maybe. Foote and pick for Ross. I really like the idea of Ross with Jack. With a couple more big adds its a good roster

I think Holtz for Colton….Ranta for Foote…is more how the math works. Foote plus pick works too.

Will be interesting if next coach puts Mercer at 3C or on wing. I could see them putting him between two stout, speedy guys on wing.

You can take them out. They are a nothing piece.

With these kind of trades…if done at draft, it all probably depends who falls to number 10 that Minnesota likes, but Jersey would pass on.

But if done before draft, I could see another piece

If the cost is a starting goaltender to move up 3 spots, it’s not worth it.

Minnesotas athletic writer thinks he's worth less than a first and moving from 13 to 10 is worth a mid second.

1. Please link what was said.
2. There’s a reason he’s a writer and not a GM.
3. You didn’t answer the question. You seem to think it just makes sense because of some draft value chart, but haven’t taken the time to go through the prospects and determine why it would make any sense to do that. 3 spots for Gus is HORRIBLE in terms of value. It’s GREAT for Jersey, which is probably why you both are pushing it.

This is a pretty common trade scenario that both MIN and NJD fans have been discussing. The value difference between #10 and #13 is equal to a mid-2nd round pick, according to Puckpedia.

Michael Russo wrote an article in beginning of off-season that Minnesota may try to move up in draft and use Gustafsson as way to do that. The teams picking ahead of them that need a goalie are

12. PHI
10. NJD
7. OTT

Here is the quote: “ They could also use Gustavsson as a chip to move up in the first round, though many of the teams ahead of them aren’t necessarily in the market for goalies. The Flyers could be a fit, but they’re only one spot ahead.

So I think people just put that story together with NJD need in net.

And who is the prospect at 10 that is worth a 2nd round value more than the guy at 13?

You guys are using generalized draft value charts and not taking into account the players in the draft.

Up to #7 actually makes some semblance of sense. #10 does not.

The difference between 10 and 13 this year being a 2nd round pick is just delusional.

No, they're right.

But, as you said it depends on who's there on draft day.

If any of Catton, Helenius, Lindstrom or by some miracle Demidov are still there. Or one of the D as well.

Move the hell up. They'll be gone by 13.

Maybe Helenius. But don't risk it. The others? Gone. The D we want? Gone.

Sorry let me just tap into my connections in the wild front office who Minnesota prefers from this draft class.

Reports say Minnesota is looking to move up in the draft.
Reports say Minnesota is looking to potentially move Gustafsson at a value of around a 2nd
Historical valuations say the gap between 10th and 13th costs about a 2nd.

Put the pieces together yourself

Picks 9-13 are basically interchangeable. The difference between a guy like Helenius and Greentree isn’t that big.

It would be STUPID to trade Gus for something like that.

Do people seriously not read up on this draft? Catton, Lindstrom and for sure Demidov are not going to be there at 10. Knowing our luck, we would take Silayev and he turns into Tyler Myers 2.0 while Greentree turns into Boldy 2.0)

Before draft, yes…but once the draft starts, it’s a different story. Say Minnesota is targeting a dman and has Sam Dickinson #4 on their list and he falls to #10. They aren’t gauging the value difference between picks #10 and #13…they are looking the value of Dickinson (minus whatever pieces are needed to move up) vs next dman available at #13.

Hard disagree.

Greentree may be something of a late riser. But no thank you. Helenius is twice the prospect Greentree is. I would take Helenius who is a likely JEE 2.0, over Greentree, who is more likely a Greenway 2.0 than a Boldy 2.0.

Furthermore, Catton could absolutely be there at 10. Especially if there's a run on defensemen through the 6-9 pick range. Which is highly likely given this years D class.

Greentree is the player who plays to score, doesn’t play to win. Was on one of the worst CHL team in years. So it made sense why he looked so good in prospect game (no roles, no system, no coaching), and so badly at U18 (specific roles, system, coaching). I think he drops pretty far.
