Description

Brady Tkachuk should not be traded by Ottawa.

As it currently stands, it will take a mountain to acquire him. Which is why he will not be traded as it currently stands and no GM will waste their time making offers.

If he demands a trade, that is the only scenario in which I could see him even somewhat realistically moved.

In this scenario, Ottawa fans will be disappointed in the return, and it will fall in line with historical comps like Eichel and Matthew.

Brady Tkachuk is a poor defensive, elite offensive player who provides physicality. He is still an 80 point winger however

NJD specifically has much more pressing needs before they empty the cupboard for a SECOND power forward.

In conclusion, all of this is caused by bored “media” like spitting chiclets, gossip about who Brady Tkachuk is dating, and a lack of success by the senators. If they simply make the playoffs it will all go away.

Every price I speak of will involve the assumption that Tkachuk has requested a trade, because that is the only scenario where negotiations would even occur.

The biggest thing about Brady that you fail to mention are:

1) the type of player he is is what most contenders would kill to have

2) he doesn’t have any movement clauses or injuries

3) he’s 24 and under term

You can get into all those factors:

In terms of Matthew:
Pros:
-better offensively
-much better defensively
-8 years at 9.5 mill (better value)
Cons:
-somewhat limited market (still enough for a bidding war)

Eichel:
Pros:
-much better defensively
-much more valuable position
Cons:
-Higher AAV
-injury concerns

Meier at time of trade
Pros:
Better defensively
With extension ends up with much more term
Much cheaper year 1

Cons:
Less certain control
Older

All 3 of these players fall under the style of players that contenders would love to have.

Tkachuk and Eichel were both also 24 with term

None of them had any NTCs

Again, points in favour, points against.

I think you’re underrating the massive gap in Matthew and Brady, significantly overrating the gap between Brady and Meier at time of trade (Meier arguably better), and the value of Eichel being a C.

I also think you significantly overrate the impact of having for example 10 bidders vs 4. A 4 way bidding war is still a bidding war

I can think of no circumstance why Ottawa would want to trade Brady. Usually it’s contract that drives this stuff and that isn’t the case here (even Eichel’s injury provision kind of played in). I cant think of the last trade with a young player with term who was traded

My guess is that even a public demand wouldn’t lower the price much, but the team that acquires him will likely be one that can’t attract free agents or have higher picks.

My guess is that even a public demand wouldn’t lower the price much, but the team that acquires him will likely be one that can’t attract free agents or have higher picks.

There will be no desperation for ottawa to move him no matter what.

If they choose to switch the team direction and compete starting in 2026 or 2027, maybe they shop him . But they aren’t taking any offer with Mercer as the best piece.

Ottawa has no reason to trade Brady

My guess is the only trades for Brady would be deals neither side would do.

We spend so much time of cap friendly trying to prove why our point is right that we forget most of the arguments live in a gray area with different assumptions.

100%. This bull**** was started by the fact that Brady Tkachuk’s GF is from NJD. So apparently that means NJD MUST ignore all their other needs and trade for him. Ridiculous stuff
