The habs are in need of skills and Marner brings that skills, he's not good in the playoffs but the habs are getting built for the playoffs, he's gonna help them reach them

And all of that and you still have the 5th overall

Value wise its not great, getting 2 first rounders is good, you can either uses them or trade to get a better player. Engstrom is a really good D prospect. And Barron is a good potential top 4 RD puck mooving, things that the leafs lacked a lot

The main thing on that deal is simple : Cap Space

With that moove the leafs will get a lot of cap, could see them uses the picks and the cap to go after a guy like Parayko (the leafs have to trade one of their core 4 and Marner is the most likely)

Why would Marner sign for 9.5mil? and MTL should only make that deal if they where close to the playoffs and the Habs aren't even if the picks are late from other teams it's not worth it for them right now.

Super bold move for the NJD pick considering even with protection and Marner no guarantee Habs finish outside of the bottom 10 next year. The Habs defense is too young they need more time

Also the habs are way closer than you think

Leafs fans said Nylander would sign for 9mil because of XYZ he got over 11mil, Marner is more likely to get 12mil than he is to get 9.5mil be real buddy

And No the Habs aren't closer than you think, defense is too young and inconsistent and they'll get even younger and inexperienced next year with the addition of Hudson and maybe Reinbacher and Mailloux
Habs will be nasty in 2026 maybe 2027 not before

Why trading our #1 goalkeeper?

I don’t think Montreal should be trading Guhle or Montembault.

But if they want number 10 overall, those are the pieces I’d be interested in.

Not interested in a box of scraps, or trading it away for a forward

Number 1 goalie or quality cost controlled shutdown LD are the pieces of interest. Only Guhle and Montembault fit that bill from MTL

I wouldn't want the big part of a trade to be a 1st next year where there is a decent chance MTL could be top 5 pick, kicked back another year...because at that point MTL should improve somewhat and then that next prospect is two years farther behind where the Devils could have just drafted in 2024.

I’d be interested in pieces like Newhook, Guhle, Montembault. The exact type of pieces Montreal shouldn’t trade away for the same reasons NJD should want them, especially if MTL is trying to transition to a competitive state. So it’s tough to make it work.
