This is where the Marner to Ottawa thing falls to pieces. They either lose him after 1 year, or they have to give him a raise, when he already makes too much

Marner would sign long term obviously or they wouldn't do the trade.

Too much cap for the Leafs to take on in 24/25. Leafs are just better to keep or trade the cheap Liljegren/Robertson and have lots of cap when Marner leaves in summer of 2025.
Leafs do better than three years of 4m Korpisalo, and though everyone likes Norris, his iffy health and cap just too much of a risk to take on.
