Description
I know I'm gonna get roasted here.

Habs fans will say:

-This is too much for Marner
-We can just wait a year and get him for free
-Marner is not the player we need because he's "not a playoff performer" (which is nonsense by the way)

Leafs fans will say:

-This is not enough for Marner
-The Leafs would never trade Marner to a division rival
-Marner would never want to play in Montreal

So I actually think Marner is exactly what the Habs need.

1) He's a natural RW, which is actually fairly rare to find on the market
2) He's a 90+ point prime-aged player which almost never becomes available
3) Gorton is looking for a Panarin equivalent, and this is the closest thing to it

The Habs will have ZERO chance of landing him in Free Agency. The only hope they have is to make a big splash with a sign & trade and show him how badly they want him.

Marner is supremely talented and cerebral. He will get exactly what MSL is trying to do and he will execute it perfectly. I honestly can't think of a better MSL player than Marner.

Habs only do this deal if Marner agrees to a sign & trade in the neighborhood of 11 x 7.

Yes the return is high, but how many 6OA picks turn into a player like Marner, and how many years will it take them to get there?

As for the Leafs, they need to move some cap so they can retool their D-core. They will move Tavares out as well and land a few free agents like Pesce. The Leafs don't need Marner as much as the Habs do.

This deal can make both teams better.
Transactions
MTL
  1. Marner, Mitchell
Détails additionnels:
See description above...

Signs an 11 x 7 extension as a parameter of the deal
TOR
  1. Mesar, Filip
  2. Struble, Jayden
  3. Choix de 1e ronde en 2024 (MTL)
Détails additionnels:
6 OA 2024 (44% chance at least, this is post lottery)

Struble is a bottom pair stay at home defender, exactly the kind of player the Leafs will need

Mesar if he meets his potential, can maybe be a version of Marner who scores 50 points a season. He's a project.

I feel Reinbacher is ahead of Mesar and has a lot more upside, but I'm optimistic on him and see Reinbacher as netting out as somewhere between Seider & Josi.

I think the Leafs should at least ask about a trade like this...

They need young defensemen near NHL ready and this accomplishes that

I doubt they win the series with the Bruins. Swayman is looking really strong. If Ullmark makes an appearance next game, I think the Leafs have a shot. Not sure what Montgomery is thinking with this 2 goalie rotation. At least make it "win and you're in, y'know?"

Anyway I think the Leafs need to consider some serous changes. The Habs deal here is probably not right, but moving Tavares & Marner for defense and goaltending and some secondary scoring (easier said than done for sure) is probably the right thing.

JT won't waive for sure... But I agree Leafs won't beat Boston and Marner should get dealt for defensemen... That's why the 6th OA and Reinbacher makes sense as Leafs could take Dickinson and have:
Riely-Pesce
Dickinson-Reinbacher
McCabe-Lilly
Benoit

As their DCore of the future

That's a nice DCore sir! Still need a goalie, though (no offense).

What about Fowler and the 6OA?

Woll and Hildeby are the 2 guys...

Woll's good already, going to be great ad Hildeby's unbeatable in the A

There is a better chance the pick ends up 6OA than 5OA. 44% chance it's 6OA.

Had a .930 in the A for the longest time... Then got hurt and his preformance dipped... But goalies are sorted IMO
