Ehlers is a 60 point player. Pionk is a 30 point defenceman. Those two alone do not get Marner. Maybe if they had more then 1 year left, it would be possible, but the Jets would need to add a more significant young piece, like Perfetti or Vilardi. That is why I threw in Liljgren. Makes the trade value even.

Marner says no to Winnipeg and one year of him isn't worth that much to Winnipeg if he would.

Everyone forgets a trade like this I am sure would involve a commitment from Marner to resign or it never happens. He same goes for TO with Perfetti and at least Ehlers. If all that happens it is actually on part with what Toronto would want and what the other team would need to give up. Question is that Winnipeg probably considers this fair but would they want to give up Ehlers, Pionk and Perfetti? That is a lot of high quality players that adds to their own depth just for Marner! I don't see it from that point of view.

Hmm...maybe the Leafs should have shutdown Marner earlier in the season, obviously he still isn't 100% healthy.

The Leafs could have M. Stone him and made the trades they did without retention at the deadline.
