He has a NMC.

Leafs can't do anything if he doesn't waive it.

Marner is a Toronto Boy living his dream.

What do leafs fans not get. No team is swapping their 7-8 mill stud for a soon to be 13 mill Marner that isnt a winner and doesnt play playoff hockey

You’re partially right, however Mitch doesn’t need to be the dog if you surround him with dogs. Leafs have too many guys that aren’t dogs. If there’s an extension basically ready to be signed then Utah does it(but not if it’s one season)

The only way a Marner trade makes sense for any team is if they’re sending:

2 mid level roster players (ex Oleksiak + Burakovsky)

1-2 prospects (Rehkopf, Price, Goyette)

1st round pick
2nd round pick

For Marner extended


If Toronto trades Marner they’re getting quantity not quality

I agree... If Toronto trades Marner it'll be from a position of weakness not strength and they are gonna get a very weak return because of that position and the NMC

The problem is the cap % of his last deal puts him at least at 12.5 now. Not many teams are gonna wanna give a soft perimeter undersized player 12.5 mill

That certainly is part of the problem but I think the bigger problem is that he plays a style of game that is great in the regular season but not in the post season and no gm really values that kind of player at $12m+
