He’s exactly what they need. They have a million 2nds. Soderstrom is meh and Duda won’t ever find a spot

In what world is Peterson a legitimate 1st liner? Honestly I don’t think he ever was. Soderstrom needs better development plan/change of scenery, and Pittsburgh does need this more than Utah, they could get Peterson for cheaper.

I kinda wonder if they go shopping in Carolina, skjei/pesce/guentzel, and or Florida montour/reinhart, even without Celebrini, and geekie coming, have a 1c and 3 3c sort of adventure. Multiple vets to move to the middle to let the kids take there time. Top 9 would be stacked also.

so... very quietly he's been very good in top pair minutes over the last two years. shuffled between karlsson and letang this year and produced strong results with both despite their defensive deficiencies. its not just that his analytics are good but his eye test is quite good too. best in the league? clearly not. is he still a top pair defenseman? yes.

Pettersson is probably a top 5-7 DFD in the league bud.

you make that return sound so encouraging and wonderful, it just excites me that we could install a prospect pipeline filled with meh with more meh.

jokes and sarcasm aside, i think it makes more sense to keep him and extend him in PIT, in either scenario of rebuild or not. hes the best defensive defenseman they have, and even if they rebuild, he would be a good veteran presence to have in the transition period to help the rookies develop a routine and mentor them. i think some in the pens media believe he looks like a guy that at some point will get an "A" on his jersey after tanger decides to retire, i could be wrong, but i think he's earned the A. point is, good player, good to have around, and a guy i wouldnt move unless someone offered heaven and earth

This is bad on so many levels.

I mean lets be honest, what's the point for AZ?
MP is a free agent at the end of the year, you want him, make a run then.
It's not like they are a playoff team next year and they just HAVE to have MP and give up a ton of assets for an expiring contract.
That's just nuts.
0 thought put into this.

0 thought in your brain clearly. They have so many picks and they can’t use all of them.

Getting a guy that can defend on the level of Pettersson is huge. And yes they will be trying to push for a playoff spot next year and spend more money . So yes I can see them making this move with an extension

They’re not gonna wait 3 years till simashev becomes a top pair D to start pushing for a playoff spot

who are you kidding. This team couldn't push for a playoff spot even if it wanted to.
They will be lucky not to finish bottom 5 next year.
Just wasting assets on a player they can go for in FA after the season ends.
Even if you don't think they can use all the prospects, they can use them as trade assets later when they are older and have more value at a point in time when they are actually ready to compete.

There is nothing that points to AZ needing MP right now!

This team has enough scoring to make the playoffs. They have the goaltending and offence from the back end.

The only thing they’re missing is 2 top 4 DEFENSIVE DMEN

this team is going nowhere. The top two centers have 1 year of experience and you think they are going to the playoffs.
It's not like you are talking about some McDavid level center either.
Not to mention the fact they will get destroyed on the dot. 38% for Cooley this year.
Celebrini ain't going to fair much better.
There is a learning curve while I'm sure those 2 will grow, they aren't going to the playoffs next year. They will most likely be watching Celebrini learn to play at the NHL level off the puck.
There isn't a single defenseman in the whole league who can fix those kind of issues.
