Hawks decline, they will not pay to help other teams resolve their cap problems.

Just use the template from last offseason with Bailey, that is the price.

For 1 year it might not be that high of a price

Chicago took on one year of Bailey at $5m, it cost the Islanders a 2nd round pick.

Habs said no, but likely if Anderson is on the other side of the trade.

Baily sucked, Pageau is still good in his role.

I honestly would be very intrigued by Tavares coming back, but it'd have to be for significantly less money than what you're proposing (like $3.5M at most).

I hate Tavares, but if he comes back and says "I want to win a Cup with the team that drafted me", I'd take him back. If you watch LeBron's first game back with Cleveland, the crowd goes freaking nuts.

That would be because Bailey wasn't even capable of playing at an NHL level anymore. JGP is still one of the better defensive centers in the league, he has only lost a step in terms of his offensive ability

I’d trade Anderson with those picks for Anders Lee straight up, no retention necessary but I’m going to go ahead and assume Montreal is on his 15 no trade list so the point is moot.

I don't think, because he was likely wanted to sign with MTL via the free agency in 2019, but Bergevin decided to use his cap space for the Aho offer sheet.

Oh yeah? I heard rumours but honestly there were rumours about every big bodied forward free agent who could put the puck in the net during the Bergy era. IDK how many were actually true.

I don't remember who was be, but I know that a big insider said during the day (and after the offer sheet anouncement) that was between NYI and MTL for Lee.

That may be true but it doesn’t matter for the Hawks, they already have Dickinson who is an elite level defensive centre. At the end of the day it doesn’t make sense for Chicago to give up draft capital to assist other teams with their cap problems. There will be plenty of teams looking to move players who’s production no longer matches their ticket prices, the Hawks can choose to be picky and take the best deal or just pay for a FA or two.

Interesting…I could see a deal being worked out between the Habs and the Isles then if what they need is cap space.

By the 25/26 season, can't see the Hawks having any interest in a deal for JGP. No spot for him. Dickinson is still under contract and Nazar should be a full time NHL'er by then. And Safanov may come over from the KHL. Some team probably takes that deal for JGP, but probably not the Hawks.

I think the Blackhawks track record is pretty clear. Whether the player is debatebly good...I'd point you to the Jason Dickinson trade or even Mrazek. Whether the player is not good, I'd point you to the Baily or Zaitsev trade. Taking on cap for other teams comes at a price. CHI's track record is a 2nd. There can be more to the trade like Entwhistle going back to the NYI, but a 2nd probably needs to be included.

I apparently disagree with my fellow Hawk fans here... I think Pageau fills a gap in the Hawks' roster this year while the kids continue to improve/mature. Given the retention, he's not be a huge expense. (Not that the Hawks need the retention.) A late 5th rounder ain't much to give up, especially considering all the picks the Hawks have this and future years.

Then, for year two of his contract, the Hawks have the choice to keep him, buy him out, or flip him (with their own retention added) for assets to a contender looking to fill out their own roster with a cheap, experienced, veteran center who still plays well defensively.

It would only be for the final year of this deal

Oh, sorry, I missed that (25-26)... In that case, not sure the Hawks will need him then.

If I remember correctly, Chicago was going to offer him a lot of money also. He took less to come back to NYI. I vaguely remember Montreal being involved, but definitely remember Chicago.
