Am I delusional for thinking it's possible we can run it back and make it into the playoffs next year if we play our cards right?

Maybe, maybe not. But we don't have to settle for running it back. NYR and CAR both will probably need to make some roster cuts, while we have the space to get better.

short answer: yes

Long answer: yes This will be a wild card team at best.
There are too many holes and they refuse to play the youth so not much of a chance fixing it.

you'd have to fire the coach, pray malkin doesn't fall completely off the cliff next year as the decline is very noticeable at this point, and magically come up with like 4-5 new starting players who play significantly better.

I don't think this team has enough cards left to play.

I'm Curious what you mean by "they refuse to play the youth"? What youth specifically?
Poulin is really the only one and bad injury timing and cap constraints kept him out not coaches
who are the youth you would play?

Poulin, Smith,
I mean really what justification is there to keep playing carter? Love to hear it if you have one.
You realize what they did to Smith to right? You can google the article from Post-Gazette about how he outplayed everyone in camp for the 3LD role his first year here.
But nope, down to the AHL. He got 9 games his first year. He played well. 9 games 1 goal 3 apples and a +3.
You think they let him play.... nope, that was it. No more. But they could find room for POJ? Ludvvig who is arguable the worst defenseman not named Jack Johnson I have ever seen in a penguins uniform.
I mean really. We gave up Marino for that kid. 9 games and he wasn't the chosen one. Gonna be great when Pickering comes in next year. If he plays well in WBS they are gonna have to fall over themselves for excuses as to why he's not the 3LD and how the guy they can't trust to PK gets to block his way.

But it's not just those 2, it's happened for a long time. Sully played his guys from WBS and then suddenly people in WBS weren't good enough. It is what it is.

- theres no one else that plays center... the roster is 23/23 and I think theyre 4/4 on their normal recalls aswell so they only have emergency recalls that can only play in emergency situations

-this article? https://www.post-gazette.com/sports/penguins/2024/02/20/penguins-pipeline-ty-smith-ahl-ready-nhl-wilkes-barre/stories/202402180141
it says "But he was beaten out in training camp by Pierre-Olivier Joseph"
Smith cant/doesnt play defense, thats why he cleared waivers

-Yea Hextall was a terrible GM

- This is right but its not because Sully doesnt like them its because no players down there are good enough
check out dobber Poulin is the only half decent guy they have in WBS atm and hes been injured and stuck in the contract jam

I don't give a crap what dobber has to say.
When the Post Gazette which actually attends the scrimmages, practices etc... blatantly states the Smith out played everyone, that just says it all. They aren't lying.
You can also go look at the stats for his 9 games. He played well. But keep coming up with reasons he never played again.
This team has been desperate for defensive help for years. They were benching POJ, and they wouldn't give Smith a shot.
I don't even have time for such nonsense. We gave up MARINO for that kid. Let that sink in.
