How to make an awful trade for the Devils 101. Thanks Islanders fan.

Edit: Just some notes on why this is so bad....

The Devils should not be trading a top 10 pick for an expiring forward (even retained) and a mid 30s goalie that is expensive and not likely to improve.

To add to that with adding a 2nd and Bahl, and other parts just is crazy.

It was supposed to be a top-10 protected next season.

Well, that's not what was listed. Even if that was on the table, I wouldn't give up any of the other parts with it.

Markstrom probably only ranks ahead of Gibson and Elvis for goalies I'd want. I'd rather Jarry over Markstrom. A goalie turning 35 is not a piece I'd spend a 1st on.

Jarry? You mean the albatross goalie who's so bad Nedeljkovic has started the last 13 games over when the team is desperately fighting for the last wildcard spot? The one signed for 5.4 mil for the next 4 years and is so unplayable that he's being completely benched in the most important stretch of the teams season? That Tristan Jarry?

I can understand not wanting Markstrom at his age and price tag but my goodness you couldn't have picked a worse example and i'm really starting to think you guys are just gonna end up going into next season with Allen and Kahkonen hoping and praying for the best.

Honestly I’d much rather keep Kahkonen at 2 mill and use the extra 4 mill and assets to buy a LD than pay 6 mill for Markstrom.

Realistically there would definitely be some form of retention on the Flames part if management is willing, if not I fully understand not trading for him but if he can be had near 3 mil for the next 2 years I think its moronic for Devils fans to not see that he would be their best goalie since 2015-16 Corey Schneider.

At 3 mill I’d offer the 2025 1st+2025 2nd. 1st for retention, 2nd for him at 6 mill.

Imo the defense is much more important than the goalie.

A lot of our defensive problems should (hopefully) fix themselves.

Dougie back, Luke and Nemec development year 2, and the biggest question mark is Siegs and Marino. If they play like they did last year, that’s an elite dcore. If they play like they have this year (especially Siegs), it’s concerning on the left side, and leaves far too much on Luke’s plate.

Marino I’m less worried about. He’s been decent/mediocre this year, was fantastic last year, and should be the 3RD.

Siegs is the biggest concern. He’s been very much bad this year. Hopefully being back with Hamilton helps, but I don’t have as much faith in him. I’m cautiously slotting him in as a high quality 3LD.

Bahl/Brendan smith are awful. Can’t fire a breakout pass to save their lives, but are both quality PKers. So ideally I’d want a PKing, puck moving shutdown dman to play with either Marino or Nemec. Marcus Pettersson would be my perfect fit, I also was interested in trading for Hanifin. But someone of that mold would be my priority over a goalie.

Between Daws, Allen, Schmid, and Kahkonen, I have faith we can do something similar the canes system of quantity over 1 specific guy.
