This is basically the Boston equivalent of Detroit fans offering a 2nd or a 3rd (or some combination of fringe players)

putting the horrible DET trade aside, I see no reason for Heinen to sign that.
He's been very inconsistent in his career but he's consistently put up some decent seasons. He's not taking 1.5 after this year.
He at least doubles that.

its pretty rare a guy goes from a PTO to a $3m+ contract. I think $2M for him is reasonable, maybe up to $2.5m.

he's got multiple years of 18+ goals and like 30+ points.
Including this year. As much as you want to say, he went from a PTO.. that doesn't mean anything. He's been constantly over looked, and by BOS as well.
He put up the numbers, he'll get 3 mil. He's not going to take 1.5 that's for sure. Someone else out there will pay him.

Yeah Detroit passes, We've no long term plans for Linus Ullmark, Cossa should be up 2 years top and Augustine within 3-4 years top. And Lyon is absolutely going nowhere and for right now neither is Soderblom.

I think that's a very shallow way of looking at it.
Every year he's played well he's got a contract out of it, including 2.8 mil per out of BOS.
He's had a good season. He's gonna get a contract. The idea no one wants him just isn't true. There are enough teams out there who could use a guy capable of dropping 16 goals in and still playing defense.
Now don't get me wrong, no one is going to sign a 3rd liner for a long term deal, that's just not the modern NHL, I see 1-2 years on it. But he put up the numbers so he'll get the money.

The bolded - you are right. it isn't true. i also didn't say it.

Heinen had a really strong year at the end of his ELC and got a 2x2.8 contract in boston. then he got moved.
then he took a pay cut
then he took another pay cut
Then he took a PTO....and eventually took a pay cut.

The only team he has ever earned a raise with is Boston. The only system he has ever really worked in is Boston's. I think it's pretty shortsighted to think that teams will think 70ish games completely negates the seasons that led him to three consecutive paycuts and a PTO. He would certainly get a contract elsewhere, but $3M is a stretch in my opinion. I think he stays in Boston because it works for the bruins, and it works for Heinen. He'll play in an organization, culture, and system that appreciates his talents, and works for him - my guess is that that sort of stability given the fluctuations he's seen in his play, TOI, and value elsewhere will present value to Heinen that other teams can't offer.

the blow hard comments here.
1st He played well in PIT his first year, so BOS isn't the only system he worked in.
Second, how does boston "appreciates his talents" when they trade him out?

He went where he got a chance after a rough 2nd year in PIT.
Having 2 of the last 3 years being tends to lead to a contract.
As much as you think he won't get 3 mil, that's not some outrageous contract ffor a guy putting up 16 goals in 71 games and 18 goals 2 years ago.

oh fun. lets take this line by line
uhhhh, okay?
if you say so. if he played well, why did he receive a pay cut from his $1.1M contract?
i guess this is a novel concept, but sometimes teams trade things that they value for other things that they value. i don't think every team that has ever traded a first round pick decided they think first round picks suck.
yes, boston was the only team that gave him that opportunity.
was that year that good if he had to take a pay cut?
its a stretch, as i said.

He's scored more goals in his 1st year in PIT than any other year so far. Hard to say he didn't have a good year.
He got paid less because they had no cap space. That simple. The team has always been cap strapped.
It's just factually wrong to say he didn't have a good year. If he had a bad year why would they have resigned him? That's when you move on... like they did the year after.

Look I know how you think talking a guy down on CapFriendly is going to effect their salary but it's not.
Fact is 3 mil isn't out the ball park.
comparables like Athanasiou, Kerfoot, Rodrigues all right there.

If boston had so much appreciation for him, they would have done what NYR did with Vesey and signed him to a 2 year deal. They didn't. So he'll test the market next season, and there is no reason to think he won't find a contract with his play this year.
