Before anyone says it, Yes I know... Nashville says no, of course they do. Regardless of value in terms of future of him, the only consideration from Nashville is probably Matthews!

Leafs decline that actually. No need for another Morgan Rielly when they already have one.

Also 0% chance “only Matthews” gets Josi… Matthews, Marner, and Nylander all clear Josi in value by a wide margin and Nashville adds substantially in that kinda deal. Even Rielly would get Josi plus a little extra.

Can’t really see Josi being a fit in Toronto at all.

Josi by far this year has been a do it all defenseman for Nashville. Without Josi, who knows where Nashville is. Josi is similar is that he is left handed and a more offensive minded defenseman. But he is better offensively and better defensively than Reilly. I like Reilly, and not saying that Reilly deserves to go to the the second pairing, just pointing out that Josi, Montour, Reilly McCabe is way better than we have now. In terms of what we give up in the trade, for us it is debatable on value for us. It would take a minimum of futures like this to pry Josi. For us, is it worth it is completely debatable. Because a top four of Reilly, Roy, McCabe and Liljegren while not as good with Josi in the pairing this foursome has a higher upside if Liljegren grown more.

On Nashvilles end, they will want a Matthews for their number 1 defenseman hence why they say no.

Josi this year, 78 points in 78 games, +11, a key cog is all minutes for Nashville yet he is continuously underated. Many insiders has pointed out that he probably deserves the Norris this year yet will probably finish #3. Makar has Toews as his partner whom in his own right does a lot to drive that pairing and enhance Makars numbers. (Yes makar is deserving too) Hughes took huge strides but his pairing in Hronek has be a huge benefits as well) Josi yet is always underrated and often viewed as substantial even when analytics points him is a great defenseman as well.

Yes. he's a franchise player. Arguably the best defenseman in the NHL right now. A first ballot Hall of Famer. I was making fun of the guy who somehow thinks TOR couldn't use the guy, or that NSH would have to add to Josi in a trade for any of Marner, Nylander, or Morgan freaking Reilly.

Maybe @Ryminister_92 is Scott Powers' burner account?

I got that and and defending your comment. I find it laughable how many times Josi is not considered for many trophies and often looked at as second tier. The main argument to him not being able to help us is literally only because he is left handed. For us, if I can make right handed Chris pronger, we would have it made. It's what we need. A defenseman who plays tough, and is great at moving the puck.
Yes, our defense needed.to be tougher but outside of Reilly and Liljegren and sometimes Timmins, we have no body who can move the puck up the ice.sadly those D are very hard to come by!

First of all, if people would learn to read there would be less back and fourth on here.
I never said Josi wasn’t better than Rielly. They’re both offensive minded defenceman with defensive flaws, both aren’t particularly great defensively. But just being “better” doesn’t purely dictate trade value. The reason why Rielly would be worth more than just Josi has to do with contract and age. Josi is 3 years older with 4 years left on a contract of a cap hit that makes $9.5M aav. Where Rielly is 3 years younger and has 6 years left on his deal at only $7.5M. Josi’s deal likely doesn’t age well where Rielly’a will still be good in 3-4 seasons. You wouldn’t Rielly straight up for Josi for that reason - Nashville adds.

The irony of you thinking my original comment was hilarious and then you turn around and call Josi arguably the beta defenceman in the league LOL.

& as for any deal for Marner or Nylander… yes Nashville adds substantially more than just Josi. It should be illegal for you to think that they wouldn’t.

I think you meant to say best, not beta. But you don't think Josi's still one of the very best? Hughes is the only other defenceman this season that's in the conversation for better than Josi right now. Makar's been meh.

Josi gets an unfair rap for his defensive game like most offensive defensemen, but he's still good. He's quite a bit better defensively than a Karlsson or a Rielly.

Not sure why you feel Rielly's contract will age better than Josi's. Josi's shown no sign of slowing down, and $9M is a fine cap hit for an elite player. Conversely, $7.5M is on the high end for what Rielly currently brings. If he drops off at all, that contract starts looking pretty ugly.

The gap between Josi and Rielly is wide enough that two extra seasons of Rielly isn't exactly a strong argument for NSH having to add, in a potential trade. One year of Marner at nearly $11M isn't more valuable than Josi either. I like Nylander, and he's got term, but his extension isn't exactly a bargain. Josi is still more valuable.
