Chicago doesn't need the cap to incentivize getting rid of him, and nobody else is taking that **** without major compensation and/or retention.

Agree, Chicago doesn't need the cap space and they don't have the prospects ready to step in to take over Jones's position and lastly he provides much needed leadership for the coming next few seasons. Additionally, nobody wants that agreement at $9.5M either I would guess and Hawks aren't retaining for 6 more seasons.

I would argue his market value is $6.5M to $7.5M, but no way the Hawks eat $2m to $3m for the next 6 years and not just because the dead cap space (which will be important, not now, but in a few years), but because the retention slot is valuable.

Bowman screwed them no doubt; one of the worst trades and subsequent signings he did which is really a culmination of how poorly he managed the team after the last cup year when the following season they got smoked by Nashville in the first round and was painfully obviously to most it was time for a short 3 year rebuild. Instead he kept trying to add aging vets and giving away draft capital for the next 4 seasons. Bowman got handed to him a incredible roster in 2009 and did a pretty good job navigating the 3 cups, but that's a lot easier with a core of players then to realize it's time to do a short rebuild and being successful.

As long as he doesn't age terribly, $6.5M - $7.5M becomes increasingly doable as the cap rockets upward coming out of the COVID escrow freeze.
