Trade provorov, play jiricek and don’t sign those defender deals. (Or at least deMelo) if we trade provorov and sign Dillon that’s fine.

I will say I am a little surprised at how good Andrew Peeke has looked in Boston as the third RD. After the trade, I was kind of expecting a walking disaster based on Columbus fans feedback. Good physicality and a willingness to block shots. Hes been a nice upgrade overall from Shattenkirk.

How much of your defensive struggles is your system and coaching? Also, why sign any additional D. Seems like there is an open slot for Jiricek?

Yeah I’m so happy for peeke that he regained his confidence in Boston. He looked so morally defeated in Columbus this last year.

As far as the defense it’s been much improved this season, now it’s turnovers on the breakout and off puck movement. Forwards or defenders making blunders by either not making the simple play up the boards or by trying to skate through players. Some of it has to do with coaching but a majority of the mistakes happen due to literal brain farts and bone headed decisions.

For example chinakhov and marchenko are fantastic forwards in the neutral zone but get the puck stripped of their stick during s breakout with decent frequency due to overcarrying and not passing it away. Or a player like boqvist who loves to throw bombs ip the middle of the ice which get picked off or miss wide.

The biggest issue for coaching is not preaching off puck movement. Provorov is the king of puck watching and can play decent 1-1 defense when guarding puck carrier but he looses his man so often it’s insane.

So to summarize, off puck movement and turnovers are the death of this team.
