Can think of very few more assets that are as useless to the Sabres as a 4th. There is no incentive to do that

Kulak and Ceci are worth more than that. The Oilers paid a 2nd + C prospect for Kulak and he's only gotten better since then, they would expect at least a 2nd in return. Ceci, being RH and playing higher in the order than Kulak is worth more, probably 2nd + 3rd.

Your words are in God's ears. I completely share your point of view. But look at the bombardment of previous commentators, fans of other teams don’t particularly like our defenders, although I know that this is nonsense. Ceci is a solid mid-pair defender, but I'm sure we need an upgrade to a top-4 right-back, and for me there are four favorites in the league that I consider: Pareiko, Larsson, Tanev and Pesci. Pareiko is my favorite, it’s akin to a home run, like Ekholm is only in the right, it’s also important that he’s a local Edmontonian, but unfortunately he’s locked up and it’s not possible to get him from St. Louise. Larsson is of course good, and his unexpected departure from the organization greatly crippled the Oilers, although they try not to talk about it, but Seattle will not let him go, and most importantly for me, he is a traitor after his departure and he has nothing to do in Edmonton after his escape. Tanev is unlikely to sign with Edmonton; most likely he will continue with Dallas. Pesci is the only real candidate for an upgrade to the top-4 right-back and this will be a strong signing that will fill this top-4 position for the next three years.
Kulak, in my opinion, is an elite third-pairing league defender, his swing is perfect, a very strong defender, and besides, he’s local, it’s a shame to give him up, but we need money and a place for Broberg, I hope this prospect will become a legitimate top defender in a couple of years

I want to note that Ceci is far from resetting the cap, he is working out his contract to every cent. I don't see any logical grain in your reasoning. You don't need a defenseman who plays consistently well for 20 minutes every game in the 6th round of the draft, the selections of which you have like snow in the winter, what do you get for selecting a prospect at the end of the draft who, if he even makes it to the NHL, at best in six years , and that’s not a fact. And here you get a legitimate right-handed defender for a reasonable price for just one season, which will add experience to your defense, I’m already silent that at the deadline you will capitalize your spent 6th round into the 3rd round of the playoffs by giving Ceci with withholding the salary for the remainder of the season for the applicant as an experienced middle-pair defender.

I assume next season Buffalo will still be far from the ceiling, and you will not be a seller, but you are also unlikely to go all-in, so getting the 4th round of the playoffs for providing a small service in withholding part of the salary, with the fact that you can afford it, I think gen. Buffalo's manager is not an enemy of his organization to give up a pick in the middle of the draft.

They aren't a charity, just because they can afford it doesn't mean they have to do it. The Sabres have also operated in the red for a decade. Not to mention, weak draft, Sabres have the best prospect pool in the league, adding some long short 4th rounder isn't enticing
