Still just feels to me like Oshie is going to LTIRetire this offseason alongside Backstrom. With so much youth and skill/potential among the forward ranks, I think it may be more likely money gets spent on D after all. We just don't have that next big blueline prospect.

The Winnipeg trade would just be fun. Thinking is Milano and a 1st for Ehlers' last year, and the two RD swapping for Nate the Great to come back home, since the FA D-market is thin and Winnipeg is going to be slim on the back end.

Honestly kind of surprised a Hanifin extension has not already happened. If it doesn't and he goes to market, the Caps will have more cap space than almost anyone, and can match any offer from a contender, plus promising that he will the leader of the d-corps as Carlson's time winds down. Is that enough? Don't know. But DC can afford stupid money if it means getting a big name.
