I think it’s more curiosity on what the deal was than a desire to get PLD on the Bruins.

it's hard to quit a 6'4" 225lb center that can skate the way he does. If any team can ever figure out the secret to getting him to consistently give a **** they'd be getting a great player.

I think the Kings deal is as simple as them wanting to resign Byfield to an 8 year contract without giving up Matt Roy. They can’t do that and keep PLD.

From Boston’s side, what’s the bigger risk? Age with Lindholm or attitude with PLD? I can see the argument that you put PLD in this clubhouse and he steps up, but LA has great leaders and there is still noise (Kopitar is the closest thing to Patrice in the league today)

I seriously doubt Ullmark waives his NMC, because I don’t believe that the Kings will sign him to an extension to incent him to do it. Ullmark craves stability. It’s the reason he loves Boston.

Also, it’s a Leafs fan doing an AGM. The general reaction to
PLD in Boston seems to be eliciting an emotion other than want. Vomit inducing is probably closer to the feeling of most fans.

I’ve discussed it because I am trying to figure out how the Kings could add Ullmark without adding PLD back and I’m struggling to figure that out.

Post was made by a Leafs fan. 🤷🏻‍♂️

If they bring him to Boston the front office should be fired.

Don Sweeney would have been GM if the year last year if not for the Mitchell Miler flub.

I don’t think another GM has done as good a job as him this past offseason though my assumption is he won’t win it this year either.

I trust Don Sweeney’s judgment. If he makes the decision to add PLD, he deserves us waiting to see if it works. I don’t think he will, but there is an argument that his attitude may be less of a risk than age related regression of an Elias Lindholm.

To me, I think the decision is going to come down to 7 years for one of the following

PLD at 8.5 (26 through 32)
Elias at 7.5 to 8.0 (29 through 36)
JDB at 6.2 to 6.5 (27 through 34)

JDB may get less, but Owen Tippett is probably the comparable. There are some interesting options

There is a huge difference between taking a chance on a poor character under age 20 and on an ELC than there is a bad character/quitter with a huge contract. 🤷🏻‍♂️

So the attitude risk with PLD is bigger than the other risks to you. He’s also less effective on the face off than our current options in the top 2.

Which one frightens you less on the other two? The age risk with Lindholm or the consistency risk with DeBrusk?

Tough call, everyone ages differently, he could be Marchand, he could start fading in 3 years. 🤷🏻‍♂️. If they sign him I would not give him more than 6 years and would prefer 5, tops. As far as JD goes, everyone is streaky, everyone, his is just more pronounced, and more scrutinized, than others.

I’d love to cap Swayman at $5.5m, but we’ll likely pay more for him

Really the open question is what is the other forward you are moving to if you take a hardline position on years. Free agent negotiations are usually less about negotiation as much as it is about selling the opportunity

It’s the open issue with going down the FA route to acquire. I don’t think the amount is really that different.

Boston has pushed for him twice and they didn’t have the draft picks / prospects to afford to lose, so I think they go max years. We’ll see. Friedman stated that they would pursue him again in free agency if he makes it there.

Is that 7th year a reason to go to another options? If so, any thoughts on the player?

I highly doubt PLD is getting traded

I think it was some dumb rumor to be honest.

It’s a pretty simple equation for the Kings

Keep PLD = Lose Matt Roy (massive loss)

or

Keep PLD = Quentin Byfield to a bridge contract (lost opportunity to lock him up to a reasonable contract)

I don’t see why the Bruins would take his contract outright personally. Never did, but no other trade with the Kings really made sense to be that far along. I don’t doubt they had conversations. Too many credible

Therein lies the problem. Really isn’t one. Not in free agency anyway. Stephenson but he is same age and not a 1 either.

They’d be better off pivoting, signing Skjei and a couple of mid 6 wings and look for a trade if Elias slips through the cracks.

The irony is I think Skjei is going to be one of the most attractive FA D and probably is going to have a similar decision to Lindholm with regards to taking longer years at a slight discount at age 29.

He’s easily the number 2 LD currently in free agency and I expect Hanifin to sign before.

I could see a scenario where they sign Skjei and trade a nominal pick for Reilly Smith to replace JDB

Ya, i think Noah won’t be an option. Not a bad thing. He’d want significant trade protection, combined with Hampus NMC til ‘27 it would doom Lohrei to being 3rd pair for years.

Go after Skjei, give him 6 years no trade protection, nice trade piece in a couple years, when Lohrei ready for bigger role and someone like Brunet/Edwards ready to break in to 3rd role.

Side note. I liked the signing of Drew Bavaro out of Notre Dame. He has good size for a right D and skates better than you’d expect for an undrafted kid. Sweeney seems to covet these players that didn’t go down traditional routes, but have NHL athleticism.

I can see Skjei as an option. I think he’s the ideal fit next to McAvoy. Smart, defensively sound player with good offensive skills.

Their D depth is pretty thin and DB was arguably the best NCAA free agent D man. Solid move. Ceiling is nothing more than 6/7 but when you get that “for free” take it. Now get Graf and Quinlan when their season is done,

I think they have the room to secure one with their roster slot. Graf is a local kid, but I don’t like that he was close to signing with Detroit. I don’t see why he wouldn’t consider Boston. The opportunity is better

Thinking more about Collin Graf.

1. He’s from Lincoln, Mass
2. He was on the Boston Junior Bruins
3. outside of Lysell, Boston lacks right shot wingers
4. There is a prime opening in Providence next year

The reality is he immediately jumps into our top 6 prospects and we lack draft capital this year. Hes the one free agent in this class (outside of Tsyplakov) that might be ready soon for an NHL role
