The Devils, 8 points back of the second wild card and 3-7 over their last 10, probably do not move that 1st.

Edmonton would need 25% retention to make this work.

If you want Zegras it starts with Leonard. Leonard untouchable? Great, we wish you well, we’re stoked on Z

Cool, keep him. Just liked the thought of bringing in Strome to play with his brother really. I don't even like Zegras but thought the value was fair.

Normally would agree but three firsts from a team who won't contend in that window and getting out from Strome's deal? It's not nearly as bad as most Zegras offers around here.

Compete in what window? Zegras is a 22/23 year old RFA. He could not more perfectly fit our window. And as the 4th lowest scoring team in the NHL while he’s been injured, his top 6 scoring touch is exactly what we need more of

NHL hit rate on late 1sts aren’t good. And that’s just if they become NHLers at all, let alone are ever capable of putting up multi-60pt seasons, let alone on a their ELC.

Are there worse Z trades on this platform? Absolutely. But we both know that’s a low bar, haha. It takes quality to get quality, not quantity, especially when trying to acquire someone a team has zero incentive to move that fits a team need

Strome’s contract isn’t great at all. But we aren’t a cap constrained contender in need of space. The cap hit impacts nothing for us, and he provides great leadership.

Maybe I’m wrong, but I just don’t see your points here other than that this isn’t the worst trade for him I’ve seen. In that I fully agree

We will absolutely do so.

Feel free to make an offer for Strome, we’d totally be open to that in ANA and happy to give feedback on an offer. Not sure I can say that I see the rationale of throwing in one of our best young players in order to acquire him though

Getting three firsts *from* a team that won't contend in that window. Talking about Washington. Their 2025 and 2026 picks especially could be quite valuable. And three first round picks is certainly nothing to scoff at.

I hear your point on the cap situation, but getting out from Strome's 5x5 is still a plus. It's a bad contract.

Not saying this is an immediate accept but it's much better than the random bottom-sixer and a 2025 third for Z that you normally see around here.

Regardless, if ANA trades Z, have to imagine they're looking more for prospects/young players than picks, considering the process of their rebuild.

How’s WAS’s performance relevant though? The picks are from EDM, TOR, and NJD. Agreed they’re still totally valuable, but ANA is loaded with B and C tier prospects. They need A, and it’s very rare (and honestly mostly luck) to find A prospects in the 20-32 range, especially with ANA’s recent draft history

Agreed, happy to get out of Strome’s contract, but it’s not worth spending anything to do so because it doesn’t impact us negatively at all right now. Hell, with our injuries and Henrique/Carrick traded, Strome is either our 1C or 2C 🤦‍♂️

My main takeaway from this is that you’re a logical dude, and that we actually see this relatively similarly.

The offer here was a reasonable attempt at value, but it pries away a player ANA needs annd doesn’t address any of their needs which is high end talent at wing or RD. At the end of the day the WAS asset that would make sense is Leonard, and I don’t see them moving him

All fair. Didn't realize picks were not WSH's originals. Definitely makes a difference, especially with those three teams.

Agreed on Leonard. Would be shocked if WSH moves him but that could certainly move the needle for ANA.

Strome is a long term 2/3 RW, IMO. I think his center days are done outside of having to fill in in a pinch.

We’re agreed across the board now. And sadly, we’re in a pinch. No Leo, McT, Zegras, Henrique, or Carrick. So we’re down to Lundestrom, Strome, and Grouxl at C this week 🤮
