Description
Don often grabs a guy nobody was expecting, and often looks for players he can keep for multiple seasons. I think acquiring a player that is not only relevant now, but also will be a contributor in the future, is especially important this year.

Given the lack of draft capital and high end assets we can trade, imo he should be looking for another Zacha-type trade. Here are some under the radar players that I think could be involved in a hockey trade and may be of interest to us. Most of these guys could be acquired in “hockey deals”, in exchange for players who are also struggling for us (who could then be extended or re-flipped for future assets, depending on the acquiring team’s needs). All have cheap contracts and could be medium or even long term pieces. I don’t think any of them, except maybe Holtz, would cost an exorbitant amount either.
Transactions
1.
LAK
has a very high end shot but is getting no ice time. Has surprisingly good defensive metrics, but is mainly known for goal scoring and might be able to immediately step into a scoring role for the Bruins.
    2.
    NJD
Probably the most expensive player in the list. High draft pick that can’t crack the top 6 on the RW New Jersey, as he is stuck behind Mercer/Bratt/Toffoli.
      3.
      SJS
Having an awful season along with every other Shark but could feasibly perform much better on a good team.
        4.
        SJS
Doesn’t have term but is young enough that you could sign him if he fits well. Would be very cheap as he has produced nothing this year, but scored 30g with the Panthers last season.
          5.
          BUF
A Tuch trade just isn't happening. But Krebs on the other hand hasn’t seemed to find a scoring touch in Buffalo, but has skill and is stuck behind a lot of very talented young forwards.
            6.
            ANA
young guy on a somewhat cheap deal, big and very fast. I think he’s pretty underrated and would make a good bottom 6 winger as a Bruin.

i think people make too much of sweeney looking for guys he can get for multiple years. three pick ups last year, all of them gone. yes, zacha was extended, but he was RFA. Lindholm certainly the exception - it was clear they needed to be able to extend him. After that we're going back to Coyle. I think a better way to put it is if Sweeney is paying a premium price - a first and something significant, he wants term.

This looks like a list of players for a team thats on the rise, but not a playoff team. reclamation projects, and guys needing to develop. Not exactly what the bruins should have in mind.

You mentioned Zacha and Coyle but forgot about Hall, Lindholm, Lazar, Reilly, Kase, Ritchie... If you look at his trade history, most of his trade acquisitions have played more than one season for us. Ullmark wasn't a trade acquisition so he doesn't really count towards this exercise one way or the other.

Last year was an exception because it was a clear "all-in" season, everyone knew we couldn't keep anyone we traded for but it was worth a shot anyway. In normal circumstances he definitely prefers to acquire guys he can keep for more than one season.

You’re correct, the Sabres are absolutely not trading Tuch

You’re assessment of Krebs is off though
He’s another guy we aren’t looking to move
I get that from a glance it appears he’s buried on the the 4th line, BUT really, he anchors our “defensive” line and plays an important role for us. His point production has dropped this year bc injuries have had us rotating linemates for him, and while last year we got good performances from Girgensons & Okposo- both have fallen off this year.

Krebs isn’t untouchable like Tuch is,
but he’s not a guy we are looking to move & we definitely won’t “sell low” on him

What would you pay for Mittelstadt. Every time I ask a Sabre fan, they say Carlo. It sounds like Buffalo doesn’t want to pay him the contract necessary.

              I’d start with Lysell, cap filler, and a 2025 #1 if that’s a possibility.

I know most people here think that Ferraro is fairly meh, but the Sharks are fairly high on him and don't need to move him. It's unlikely they move him without it involving a 1st coming their way, even though many people think he's only worth a mid-round pick.

But none of those guys had term when he acquired them. He resigned them after acquired. I’d be interested in Duclair for the right price

I doubt he’s traded. His value and his statistics don’t align. It would need to be a pure scouting deal

I cant see the Sabres moving Krebs. He can play C up and down the lineup and is cheap, they also dont have anyone to replace him.

if you didn't delete most of my post, you would say that i most certainly did not forget lindholm. so don't do that. just leave the full post that you're quoting. Kase and Ritchie were both restricted, and Lazar, ya, he had term.

edit: I said Ullmark instead of lindholm - mea culpa, but still - don't edit other peoples posts.

But none of those guys had term when he acquired them.

Yeah that's what I meant, he acquires guys that he can keep around in general, either because they have term already or he believes he can extend them.

What would you pay for Mittelstadt. Every time I ask a Sabre fan, they say Carlo. It sounds like Buffalo doesn’t want to pay him the contract necessary.

              I’d start with Lysell, cap filler, and a 2025 #1 if that’s a possibility.

Yeah Carlo is just a firm no, we'd be filling one hole and making another. I wouldn't touch the 2025 first, there's way too high of a probability we could be ass next year and then suddenly we're in a sens/sharks type situation where we accidentally gave up a top 5 pick. Lysell probably isn't interesting to the Sabres, given their glut of young forwards.

I think the only way that deal might make sense for both sides is if it's a 3 team trade, where we trade Ullmark to Team X, Buffalo trades Mittelstadt to us, and Team X trades something the Sabres actually want to the Sabres.
