Sharks aren't retaining 6 years and $24+ mil on Hertl. And if they did that would be a terrible return considering Buffalo would get a #1 Center at 4 mil a year. That would literally be the best value contact in the league. Also he's out long term so so one would be picking him up this deadline.

I can't imagine the Sharks would be interested in any of these returns really.

Sets a pretty bad precedent for the current players too when you trade literally half the NHL and AHL team. No one would want to play for an org like that

@Crapbag
This is a horrible trade for Buffalo.

@AStovetop really, you think that is bad deal for the Sharks!?
Jokiharju is by far Buffalo's top RHD, the Hockey writers ranked Rosén 47th and Savoie 21st among ALL drafted non NHL playing prospects and the 2026 1st round pick.
Let's check out the stats for the past two years of four players;
..........gms...goals......pts
A.......128......65.........129
B.......138......43.........104
C.......142......27.........104
D.......127......37..........97
While player "D" has the third most goals his pt total trails the other three.
No one would presume player "D" should be the top centre among the four, yet he is Hertl, the other three are Thompson, Cozens and Mittelstadt A. B, C respectively.
If offered the Sharks (or any last place team) would jump at this return to add two potential top 6 (if you wish mid 6) centers, a young still improving RHD and a first for a declining NHL player.

Jokiharju is decent but if He's the best RHD on BUF than that's an issue for them. Rutta is the best RHD on the Sharks, that doesn't mean he's a great asset.

You're using the Hockey Writers as a reference?
Those are literally fans who write articles on the side. They're both decent prospects but have stalled in their development the past year and a half.

Also you're comparing the most high flying offensive team to literally one of if not the worst offensive team over the past two seasons. Of course his production doesn't match up. He's also far and away the best forward of those defensively.

And again the thing that REALLY makes this such a bad deal is retaining 4 mil for 6 years. Look at the cost to dump a contract that's 1-2 years for 4 mil. Typically it's a 2nd/1st. Now add 4 years to that and the value of retaining that much is more. Not to mention the Sharks wouldn't have any retention slots left this year and next, then would have two more years of only one because of EK65
