Fischer's one of those guys who has little to no trade value but plays his role well in Detroit, so I'm not sure why Detroit or Calgary would really want to include him.

... Oh my I just noticed the Toronto end of this. What the ****. tears of joy

Marner alone is worth more than everything TO is getting in this trade. Significantly more. TB paid 2 firsts and 2 players for Hagel. Maybe you could argue that Mangiapane is worth a first in trade. Tanev is worth a 2nd. Vladar maybe a mid tier prospect. Or a 3rd round pick. Marner is worth what? Probably something like 4 first round picks? Maybe 2 firsts, a high level prospect, and a current NHL player. You would have to take Liljegren and the first out of this deal. And send Marner and Brodie only. And the Leafs would need to get at least an extra first round pick on top of what they are getting. Maybe more.

I'm guessing the OPs logic is that Marner is overpaid and being treated as a dump... I agree that he's overpaid, but holy **** is this bad lol.

Are you really a Calgary fan?

Detroit is the only team that accepts.

Nobody is going to give you anything for the last year of Marner's inflated contract.

Flames have ZERO interest in Marner and Marner won't waive for anyone anyhow. Nearly 11 mil AAV + UFA in 2025 means nobody is going to take him off the Leafs hands now.

You couldn't be more wrong Calgary declines hard. Marner has almost no value without an extension and he can't sign one yet. Unless he takes a big haircut on his next contract he won't be worth near what Leafies think he is either.

Just to clarify, Marner is worth a fair bit more than you seem to believe, hes a consistent point producer, topping a point per game in every season besides his first two (where he single handedly carried a mediocre line) and has been one of the best passers and PKers in the league the last few years. $10mil+ per year is the starting these days for those qualities.

No he isn't. He isn't worth much to anyone unless he comes with an extension and he can't sign an extension until after this season is over. No contender can afford his cap hit without full retention or Toronto taking a cap dump worth 6+ mil in return. Non contenders won't trade much for a guy they'd probably only have for the rest of this season + 1 more season.

On top of that he's probably going to want 12+ mil on his next contract. Maybe Columbus might be interested him then but Marner, little johnny and Laine on the same team would be an unmitigated disaster.
