VGK make room for Hanifin Leafs rebuilding the D corps
In 2 years when the cap is 95m. Guys like Whitecloud will cost 4-5m a season on the open market. Even more to play in Canada. Big young RD don't grow on trees. If your a Leaf fan, you know that already. Whitecloud is twice the D man Brodie is. And you could have him for half the price for the next 4 years. These are the kind of moves the Leafs will need to make in order to win.

lol. Not getting whitecloud for close to this. His contract alone is worth a first round pick. Whatever you might think of him as a player. He is a big, young, Right handed D man. In 2 years, when the cap is over 90million. Guys like Whitecloud will be going for 4-5m a season on the open market. This guys value is through the roof right now.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tmlduda</b></div><div>Second best defenseman behind Rielly?? Are you high?!?! Go look at all his stats, including possession stats. He has worse stats than Benoit on an arguably better defensive team? And as RFA's they have more control over their contracts than a UFA. None of this deal makes any sense for the Leafs. Terrible tbh.
Also, when I say bottom six I mean the bottom pairing guys or guys on the fringe of AHL/NHL. Top 4 D, top 6 D and bottom 6 D is how I've always kind of looked at it.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hitagi_Senpai</b></div><div>This is REALLY bad for Toronto...
If you are Toronto, you are getting AT BEST a 4th defender. But realistically he should be a VERY GOOD bottom pairing guy, or an average to below average middle pairing guy. His numbers are lackluster.
And what you are giving up...
a young RHD with top 4 upside, looked very comfortable this year in a larger role. Like his numbers are better than Whitecloud... he's younger...
BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE.
<strong><em>ANOTHER </em></strong> RHD with top 4 upside, Topi has been looking great in the Marlies. Kids only 22, there is a reason why he was the asked for a lot of rentals to toronto the last 2 seasons.
We should get Billy Mays in.. Cuz we're not done yet!
A middle 6 guy, who has not looked out of place in the top 6 on the STACKED leafs...
So you're essentially suggesting a barely second pairing guy is equal to a top prospect, a young RHD who is seemingly growing into his own, and a middle 6 forward(one of which doesn't look out of place in the top 6)
Did you forget more assets from Vegas' side?</div></div>
As Leaf fan, everything in your comment is beyond ridiculous. Liljegren is a borderline NHLer at best and thats al he will ever be. Has has his spot in the line up taken by Benoit. Right now Liljegren is the Leafs 9th D man behind Timmins and Gio. And will be gone after this season. Leafs will be lucky to get a low level draft pick for him. Same goes for Robertson. I am higher on Robertson then Liljegren. But Robertson currently has 3rd line offensive ability at best mixed with AHL defensive skills. And has no spot in the line up. Could he go to bottom feeder team and play on the first line and score 20 goals and be a minus 10 or 15 over the course of a year. Sure. But right now, his value is maybe a 2nd round pick. Topi is a prospect. Just that. This is essentially the equal of paying a 1st and 2nd for a super underpaid, underrated RD man locked in long term. For the Leafs, nothing is more valuable. Especially a bunch of spare parts they are going to have to throw away anyways. Unless you don't plan on ever using Knies or Cowan or Minten. Robertson has no home here. Whitecloud=better than Liljegren today by a lot. And the Leafs are looking to win now.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tmlduda</b></div><div>Someone please explain this one to me... He's a slightly large defenseman with fairly poor possession numbers, barely any offensive contributions and at 27 he is what he is... Why would the Leafs pay this much for a bottom six defenseman?</div></div>
Because your assessment of him is wrong. What's a "bottom six" defenseman by the way? There are only 6? Aren't all defenseman bottom 6? Keep in mind. This is essentially paying nothing. Both Robertson and Liljegren are RFAs without contracts. You are only trading their rights. They are not signed to contracts. Whereas Whitecloud is locked in long term at a very good price. Currently, he would be Toronto's 2nd best D man behind Rielly. And their best defensive D man. He would slot in beside Rielly on the top pair, and it would be the best top pair Toronto has had in the Matthews Marner era.

lol Not enough there to get Marner on his own. If PIT was willing to give up Crosby AND Malkin and eat 50% on the rest of both their contracts, maybe you consider giving them Marner. Just Marner. Nothing else. Maybe.

Zero chance. Knies and a first alone is too much. Liljegren and a first would be plenty. No Brodie. No Knies. They can have Knies as well. But they can eat 50% of the entire contract of they want him.

A Rebuttal to all the Larsson to the Leafs Trade Proposals
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KrakenTheCode</b></div><div>This is what I would consider a reasonable offer for Larsson in the hypothetical scenario where he's on the trade block. The trade comp I used is the deal that sent Jake Muzzin from the Kings to the Leafs back in 2019 for Sean Durzi, Carl Grundström, and a 2019 first round pick. In that deal, LA got a quality RHD prospect, promising young forward, and a first round pick for a shutdown top four defenseman with an extra year of term on his contract at a cap hit of $4M.
Larsson is a similar player to Muzzin with an identical contract situation, so he should fetch a similar return at minimum, with a quality RHD prospect (Niemelä), promising young forward (Robertson) and a first round pick. However, Larsson is a RHD while Muzzin was a LHD, so the relative positional scarcity increases Larsson's trade value. Something worth noting is that Seattle is much closer to contention than the Kings were at the time of the trade, and are much less inclined to trade one of their key players. So even though I would consider this offer fair, it might still not be enough to convince the Kraken to make a deal.
Keep in mind that it has been reported the Kraken are not entertaining trading Larsson, and it is basically a guarantee he sticks around in Seattle for the foreseeable future. This was mainly a hypothetical and a blanket response to all the Larsson trade ideas I've seen floating around.</div></div>
Ohhhh boy.
Ok. 1) Durzi was unsigned. Leafs were trading his RIGHTS ONLY. Durzi was 20. Topi is 21 and has a contract. Topi has played in multiple international tournys. Durzis career was very vanilla at the time.
2) Grundstrom had never played an NHL game at the time of the deal. In fact, he had only played a handful of games in North America. 28 games to be exact. For the Marlies. As a call up from Europe. He was already 21. Not even trending to be an NHL player.
Robertson has 71 NHL games under his belt at 22. Even has playoff games. Currently on pace for 16 goals and 40 pts and is a plus player. IN THE NHL. ??? Comparing a 20 goal guy to a non NHLer??
Larsson and Muzzin are/were the same age. Muzzin was coming off a 42 point season. Larsson is on pace for 25 points.....
Muzzin had 50 NHL playoff games at the time. Was a plus 4 in those games with 20 points.
Larsson has 38 playoff games. Is a -4 in those games with 13 points.
Muzzin had won a cup as a top pair D man.
Larsson has never won a cup. In fact. He has never been past the second round.
Muzzin had three 40 point seasons at the time.
Larsson has never had better than 33 points
And you added an extra pick and think you still might need to add more huh? lol
If you are going to shovel **** at people. At least pretend to know what you are talking about first lol

He has 6 more years left on his deal. Zero teams are going to take on retention for that long. Especially for basically nothing like is shown here lol
I dont get the feeling the Blues are looking to move him. Although they should, because they are not a good team and need a full rebuild badly.
He is a good player, but at 30 years old, maybe 2 or 3 good years left in him. I dont think many teams are lining up to take on that contract either. Not a great solution for the Leafs. Good player though.

Not worth it for the Leafs. Boosh is a pending UFA, and although he threw a hit once in awhile. Didnt make a big difference. Minimal upgrade to even the worst D man the Leafs have. If they cared to get him, they could just do it in FA for free. He would not add enough to the team now to make a difference.

Not close. Leafs would likely have to give up their first for Larsson. I've seen some really over the top suggestions here as well. So no big deal. But this is really lowball offer. Id Imagine this trade to look more like the Leafs send a first round pick and a D prospect like Chadwick or Kokkonen. For Larsson with 50% retention. Then the Leafs would have to add a player to make the money work. Lagesson or Gregor maybe.

Hey biggest fan. Still following me huh? Nice to see you again. Just to clear up your blatant lies. Tanev has 1 complete season in his entire career. His next best season was 70 games 10 years ago. He misses, on average 20-30 games a year. Thats anywhere from 25-40% of every season. Sorry the facts hurt your feelings. Maybe dont be dishonest in the future. Im sure Ill talk to you again soon as you are constantly following me. Take it easy Bwahahahaha
