Description
Curious to see which RHD Leafs fans want the most for Treliving to trade for on deadline day. I've selected the RHD's that I personally think are the best options in terms of impact for the playoffs and possibility of acquire them. I've left out Adam Larsson because I do not want to hear it and in no shape or form can I find more pros than cons for acquiring him. After finalizing the list I have come to the personal conclusion that Sean Walker is the most ideal candidate given the assets we have, what the selling team wants, quality of the player, and their current contract. Let me know down in the threads what you guys think; I love hearing all types of opinions regardless if I agree or not.
Transactions
1.
PHI
Ristolainen was absolutely rancid in BUF but has picked up his play immensely in PHI - he's become a good top-4 RHD and I think the reduced minutes and a different coaching style has no doubt helped him out. He has 4 years remaining on his contract and is 28 years old which is usually the time/age that defenseman mature and truly reach their potential; an example of that would be Devon Toews. He is being paid $5.1M but if Treliving can work the cap and find solutions he is a solid pickup.
    2.
    NSH
Carrier is an interesting one and is a captivating trade target for contenders. RHD and his analytics show he's quite promising and possesses good 2-way prowess. However, he is playing in sheltered minutes for the most part and there is some risk in how he would perform in a top-pairing/second-pairing role. He is 26 years old with one year left on his contract but he'd be a solid pickup by any means. Personally? If he's willing to sign an extension for a reasonable price (sub $4M) I think a first-rounder is worth it.
      3.
      CGY
Tanev in my opinion has the best defense and chance-prevention from any other RHD. His analytics suggest he's a top-10 DFD and his feedback from Flames fans very much support that. He has one year left on his contract and is 34 years old; but he is still playing at a high level - next season is uncertain. The only issue I have is that I don't think he's worth giving up the first rounder regardless of if he extends or not. If Treliving can cook up something to acquire Tanev without offering up the first then it'd absolutely be a massive win for TOR.
        4.
        PHI
Sean Walker in my opinion is most likely the ideal choice for TOR; in terms of player quality and how easy it would be to acquire him out of everyone else. He was average last season but has taken massive leaps this season; solidifying himself as a Top-4 TWD. His penalty kill stats are amazing which is what TOR needs and his 5v5 numbers especially on offense indicates he can do it all. In my opinion, he deserves the 1st rounder more than all the other targets on this list - and hope that he extends which would be more than likely.
          5.
          CHI
Connor Murphy is an interesting choice that I have personally pulled out myself as I haven't really heard any noise around him. He is currently injured right now and I'm curious to see his return date and if it'll be in time for deadline day. He's a big body top-4 right-handed DFD and has been solid for the past two seasons. He is 30 years old and on a $4.4Mx3 contract and personally from CHIs point of view I don't see why you wouldn't mind selling him as he is aging and easily fetches a 1st-rounder. If it weren't for his injury he is easily my top pick and a sleeper pick nonetheless.

Murphy with cap relief is the way to go. The results will justify the cost.

Im still skeptical on Risto. I think its the system thats done him good

Carrier no need for him. Third pair and undersized

Tanev = ideal target but CGY asking for a lot

Walker = undersized and PHI in playoff spot

Murphy is the big ?. Hes not having himself a season but if CHI was willing to do what they did with McCabe it could get interesting at 2.2m.

My personal ideal target = Adam Larsson

I'd rather have Murphy over Larsson in my honest opinion. Fair assessments on everything else.

If this was 2020-2021 Murphy would agree but rn Larsson's got the edge as man Murphy's not been great. Granted Hawks have gone through changes but McCabe besides year 1 was able to put up some good numbers with em

Also not a fan in the amount of giveaways vs. takeaways. Larsson used to have that issue but seems to have worked on it well in SEA

I actually think it's the other way around, haha. Adam Larsson was an amazing DFD a few seasons ago but lately he's been on a decline and struggling regardless of how many minutes he's been given in SEA. Connor Murphy in my opinion is better but that injury he has right now makes him a question mark; but I'd still take him over Larsson and retaining him even at 35% is a win for TOR.

Risto isn't just a product of Torts system. Brad Shaw has done wonders for the Flyers defencemen as a whole.

B to B+ prospect and a second would get the Tanev deal done. Would love a first back but that’s not what Conroy has said he’s after, and if he’s willing to look past EDM taxes and VAN taxes, I don’t see why he wouldn’t with Treliving.

I think CHI SHOULD be willing to move Murphy. But I doubt they will.
