J Hughes + Palat + L Hughes + Vanecek + Demko retention = 20.825M

You get out of 9.4M in bad cap, add top 5/6 goalie at 2.5M for 2 years, at worst a small downgrade at center, a young middle 6 winger with upside, and a top 4 RHD you can either keep over Hamilton/Marino or flip him for a good return (at worst a 1st + 2nd). New Jersey gets better here while only losing about 1.8M in cap space

Let’s assume Hughes and Pettersson are equal and Pettersson gets the low end of 12 mill (I’d rather have Hughes and Pettersson will get more). That’s a 24 mill gap in value bc of the contract differences. 3 years of Demko let’s assume as an 10 mill goalie ig covers that if he’s making 2.5 (I wouldn’t trust any goalie to maintain that high of a value beyond 1 year). But for arguments sake that’s it. If for example like I do you think Hughes will provide 1 mill AAV more value than Pettersson over the next 7 years than that’s another 7 mill AAV you need to make up. Or for example if Pettersson costs 13 mill AAV that’s another 7 mill, or if he costs 12.5 that’s another 3.5 mill

Luke+Palat for Hoglander+Hronek is an easy no

The contract gap on Hughes vs Pettersson is just too much imo as well as just the massive value of Luke, especially in the offseason when losing the cheap years of Hronek, Pettersson, 1/3 of demko's control

Demko: 10 mill
Hronek: 8 mill
Palat: 4 mill
Vitek: 1 mill
Hoglander I don't have a great projection on contract or projected value wise
L Hughes: 10 mill AAV over the life of his RFA control (this is more speculative based on expected improvement)

2 years of Demko at 2.5=15 mll
8 years of Hronek at 7 mill=8 mill
8 years of pettersson at 12.5 mill=20 mill
I'm just gonna say Hoglander at 6 mill surplus value (approximately a 1st)

Overall: 49 mill in surplus value. Massive but let's go to NJDs side

This is bad for Vancouver, Petey and J.Hughes are a wash, Hoglander and Hronek for L.Hughes and taking on Palats contract which would cost a 1st to dump elsewhere are even so the fact Van is retaining on Demko and getting a cap dump in Vanacek makes no sense, take the goalies completely out and it makes sense.
