Look, I know we all joke about how Lou loves trading his 1st rounders, and it's true. But I can't see him targeting a guy like Tarasenko when you look at the times he's traded the 1st so far:
2020 1st: traded to Ottawa for 27-year-old JG Pageau; Pageau immediately extends 6x$5M
2021 1st: traded to NJ for 30-year-old pending UFA Kyle Palmieri (fully retained) and 35-year-old pending UFA Travis Zajac (fully retained). Palmieri extends 4x$5M that offseason.
2022 1st: traded to MTL for 22-year-old pending RFA Alex Romanov. Romanov extends 3x$2.5M shortly after being acquired.
2023 1st: traded to VAN for 27-year-old pending UFA Bo Horvat(25% retained.) Horvat extends 8x$8.15M a week after being acquired.
Long story short: he has always targeted players younger than Tarasenko that have more of a chance to extend with the team as well. I just don't see Tarasenko being the type of player Lou would go out of his way to acquire and extend - not at his current age, and not at his current scoring pace (averaging about 22-37-59/82 GP going back to the start of 2022-23.)
