Dowd is perhaps an interesting add but I wouldn't send either of those guys for this return. Doesn't move the needle

Dowd value is somewhere around a 1st / 2nd +

Roberson value is around a 2nd
Niemela value is probably a 2nd +

Dowd alone should be able to pull either player

Yeah sorry, where did you come up with dowd being worth a first? He has never managed more than 25 points in a season..
Infact he has a going rate of 0.29 ppg throughout his career. If any team wanted him as a deadline add all it would take is a 4th Rd pick maybe a C level prospect for his extra year.

Edit** Dowd alone could most definitely not pull either player.

I wouldn't move either of those guys for him. Niemela especially has a high ceiling. Trading him for a 4C is ridiculous

Dowd plays 16 minutes a night. Not really a traditional 4c. Also leads the NHL in d zone starts and is statistically a top 10 defensive forward. If you haven’t been following his values or what he’s expected to get you are more than likely living under a rock lol sorry

Still doesn't change the fact that he doesn't produce points.... Which is what the leafs would be looking for in a bottom 6 role player, we don't need another defense minded player we have kampf jarnkrok and Gregor who all do well in the D zone.

Like I said before he is worth a 4th.

This is just categorically false. Foligno and Goodrow both received 1sts to be bottom 6 players, Hathaway received a 2nd, it will take far more than a 4th and "maybe a C level prospect" to acquire him.

Dowd is a 4c on a non playoff team. Keep him if you want a ridiculous return

You cannot possibly compare foligno and Goodrow with dowd. Mind you at the times of said trades both players were on expiring deals. Foligno at the time of his trade held much more value than dowd currently holds. Goodrow on the other hand in my opinion was an overpay much like most trades Tampa has made in the recent past and even still I don't think you could compare Goodrow and dowd. I dont know what they are putting in the water down in DC but please for the sake of everyone else.... STOP DRINKING IT.

Foligno on an expiring deal is not more valuable than Dowd with term.

A double retention foligno on an expiring deal is definitely more valuable... Considering no one is bashing down the door for Dowd.

Term (especially cheap term) comes at a premium, more valuable than an expiring contract. Foligno was producing on around the same level as Dowd and didn't have the term Dowd does. Also, the second part of your comment is just wrong, Seravalli as well as El-Bashir have already said he'll generate significant interest. Considering Lars Eller:
a. had less suitors
b. Was having a worse year than Dowd both offensively and defensively.
c. was expiring and more expensive than Dowd.
It is far from unreasonable for Washington to expect more than they got for Eller, especially since both were averaging roughly the same amount of ice time.

Look, you are entitled to your opinions and I am entitled to mine. I think it's delusional to believe dowd is any more than a fringe bottom 6 player who will have minimal impact of a playoff contender and therefore a much lower cost than the middle six/top six guys on the trade block for the deadline whose expected returns are a late first and a solid prospect... You really think dowd gets near what guentzel is expected to get or any other top/middle six guy for that matter. You can want the sun and the moon but I don't see a team giving up more than a low level prospect accompanied witha 3rd Rd pick at most (I would pay more than a 4th).
