I can't see Boston getting Eberle, unless they trade a player and prospect along with their 2nd round 2026 pick.
Do we all agree?

I mean from the cap situation it looks like you are going to have to have them retain 50% and then someone back, my guess maybe JVR or Forbort.

You got to clear 2.75 of cap at 50% unless you can get a 3rd team to retain another part. down to maybe 1.375 and you would be good.
So buyer usually has to pay that tax as well so you are looking at two payments. The retention probably costs a 3rd? 1 year 1.375 isn't that bad. Especially when his actual salary is only 3.75.
That's only 930k at 25% and then you prorate that and again you are looking at 232k for the holder. Might even cost less than a 3rd.

Now what does he cost with 50% retention. My guess you are paying a 1st.
Even if you think you are paying a 2nd for the payer the 50% bumps it.

Wouldn't make sense to move JVR, he's playing great and cheap. The move fits a need, the Bruins could use a 20 goal scorer for the top 6 but the cap navigation is rough and might be too much for the Bruins to manage. Moving Forbort or Gryz is essential to bringing in another piece but they would both need to be replaced by a surefire NHLer

My assumption is the Bruins go for a much bigger target if they are including their first or a top prospect.

At his age and contract situation, I can’t imagine the package is much more than a D and a second rounder for Eberle with enough retention to make him cap neutral. Maybe they add a secondary prospect

I still wouldn’t be shocked if Boston chooses to sit out this deadline

Agreed. If they move that first it's to bring in some center in a unforeseen blockbuster in the offseason. Waiting it out is the best move for the Org. at this point, considering who's available (especially if the reports on Hanifin are true).
