I honestly don't think he'll fetch a first. Maybe a conditional 2nd from someone that could become a 1st?

None of those pieces benefit the Flames or the direction they're going. They're better off getting fewer higher quality pieces than picking from a scrap heap in Toronto.

I'm not saying this is the price. But what is the actual price in your opinion? What do you think another team will be willing to pay for him? I like him, but I'm also taking in to account he's an upcoming UFA, 34yrs old & has a significant injury history. He's an interesting one for me.

He's been relatively healthy throughout his Calgary contract, he missed a chunk last season that has been reported if the Flames were in the hunt he would have played and he missed 3 games this year with a hole in his face. Prior to that he played every game of his first two seasons. The current ask is reported to be a 2nd and a player, if Calgary retains that price could easily be a late 1st. The Leafs don't have a 2nd so I would guess if they're offering their 3rd's the player would be someone they're not willing to give up. If he's going to Toronto I would think they're 1st round pick. I think he goes elsewhere and the Flames get their 2nd round pick and a young player that contributes either this year or next that needs a change of scenery

The ask for Tanev with no retention is a 2nd + Decent Prospect or NHL Player Calgary can use, and their specific needs are at Centre and RD

With retention it’s more, meaning at least a 1st + likely a player/prospect in return

Get over Tanev being 34 and having injury issues in the past, he’s still playing his best hockey and has 2-4 more years left in him if he wants. Teams want him for the way he plays and especially the way he blocks shots,
puts his body on the line and covers the net.

You’d be hard pressed to find another player tougher and more reliable than Tanev and I don’t mean tough as in strong, I mean Tough as in he will play as hard and through as much pain and adversity possible

With retention, the comparable returns are MTL’s Ben Chiarot or CLB’s David Savard

Flyers want at least a 3rd for Seeler so sure we will take a huge contract dump and a 4th for him.

You are trading Tanev to the leafs so they expect a discount
