Description
Now that we have gotten $2.2m cap space returned back to us by league, we may be able to still accrue cap space…so this may be moot topic. But if Dougie remains on LTIR and we opt to use up the cap room, the middle-man route may be an option since we have all three retention spots available.

(Even if Dougie comes off LTIR in season, we probably could have space).

More of a general idea…to be determined which actual teams would be counterparties here.

Then we could use draft capital to add a goalie this summer.

I think 50% retained Toff gets more than just a late 1st on pace for 37 goals. Not anything crazy but a prospect or pick to sweeten the pot

Winger market will be more of buyers market, I think. It usually is. But add a Phil Kemp or mid round pick, I won’t complain.

        Weren't NJ fans saying Toff wasn't worth a 1st in the off-season? Because he's a rental.

I wouldn’t press over it but I think there may be enough buyers that there needs to be a sweetener for 1 offer to differentiate themselves

We gave up an asset worth a 1st to Calgary in Yegor.

And now toffoli is on pace for a career high in goals. 50% retained.

Conroy actually commented on that. He specifically said that he was trying to get a 1st, but other GMs weren't offering any.

Sharangovich is playing great for the Flames, but I don't think that a 30P winger was worth a 1st in the off-season.

As an oilers fan I’d be willing to add a late pick plus a B level prospect like kemp or lavoie. Think this is a good move for holland to get aggressive on.

Teams also have much more alternatives in the offseason.
If you want a 4.4 mill winger, while toffoli may be better, there’s Tarasenko, Reilly smith, Bertuzzi, etc available to sign/get dirt cheap.

At the deadline any guy you bring in costs.

The floor on deadline acquisitions usually goes up. A lot more certainty with pick location as well.

We traded our 1st to San Jose already. Yegor was due a raise and NJD didn’t want to use him at center.

Also…I don’t think it says anything about what Toffoli could return at deadline. And if Flames wanted to, they could sell Yegor for more than whatever we get on Toffoli.

        Toffoli 1st+3rd
Yegor if sold now I’d expect 1st+2nd, if they wait and his shooting cools down I’d think just a 1st next year.
