I am aware of what side the players on my favorite hockey team play, thank you.
frankly, who ottawa has interest in doesn't matter one bit. this will be dictated by a first place hockey club looking to make tweaks. The conversation isn't, "oh, ottawa wants our right shot Ds? sure! we'll make that work!" Frankly, ottawa shouldn't care what side an expiring contract plays, they should be singularly focused on collecting value.
Poitras i'm sure would have been available if it facilitated a long term fit at center. I'm guessing he was in the deal offered for Lindholm that fell apart because he wouldn't extend. Now he's out for the year so doesn't really matter.
Both Heinen and Lauko (more so heinen) punch far above their contracts weight. For a cap strapped team, those guys are not moving.
1. If who Ottawa has interest in doesn't matter, you wouldn't be telling me who to scout.
Teams that are missing the playoffs don't buy expiring contracts unless it's needed for reasons relating to the cap.
And Ottawa has too many LDs.
There's no value to be collected by Ottawa from acquiring Grzelcyk or Forbort.
2. Not every player that is scouted is traded for.
In some cases, they are just signed as UFAs over the Summer.
If we want Heinen, we'll just make an offer to him on July 1st and see if he takes it.
