If the Sharks take back two cap dumps, why are they also retaining on Kahkonen for so little? Ferraro on his own should return a 1st, so Kahkonen half retained gets Niemala and two cap dumps? Feels a little light, that might just be me though

I think Kaapos value is high - but EF did make a great point that teams are hesitant to trade for Kaapo as he’s never led a cup run/ playoff run.

Similar to Adin Hill - the goalie may be there - but there’s always a worry on the value you want to give.

I’d like more but I don’t think leaf’s fans can cry over this value. And I wouldn’t either as a Sharks fan - I like Topi and we collect a first.

1. Sammy is most likely staying... Same with Reaves...

2. Leafs are most likely making cheap upgrade trades to try and wake this team up

3. Niemela may be on the move as there's not a lot of space for him

Don’t see any reason Tree should want to keep Reaves or Sammy if he’s upgrading the team with the financials not changing.

Without the retention on Kahkonen, I'd agree, but he's been a starting caliber goalie and the Sharks are using their final retention spot on him for basically only Niemala, as well as taking back two cap dumps? That's what stumped me

To Tre:

Reaves = Big tough guy and locker room presence

Sammy = Too much to dump and has looked a lot better recently

I don’t think the Sharks would shy away from Samsonov. As we’ve seen with Hill, Kaapo, Blackwood - their coaching staff with Nabokov has been able to help goalies hone their game. In this scenario Sammy likely signs a cheap aav with 3-4 years with San Jose. At 26 I don’t think it’s a terrible bet to make for a team who has time to develop a goalie like they did with Kaapo.

It’s very evident that Kaapo and the staff worked incredibly hard this offseason - watching the games it was evident from his first start the improvements they made.

The Leafs could add any asset but I think Topi for a goalie who I’d personally like to see win a cup like Hill is fine by me. Leafs can add whatever but I like setting a base with my trades not (and NOT SAYING YOU ARE, I understand your points) tormenting over the necessary tidbits to balance it out.

Maybe add a 3rd or 4th or Abruzzese to help the Cuda!



Ye but Tree said the only moves he makes aren’t going to shortsighted/ to win this second. Which is why I made it Ferraro. This does everything leafs need - and don’t see any rational for prioritizing Topi + 1st > Ferraro + Kaapo for dumping cap. As Caniac is pointing out - the deals light (which is only a base I set).

I get that... But when did Tre last trade a 1st for and who was it? I just don't see Tre as the type to trade a 1st... He'd be more likely to spend lesser assets and make moves necessary in the offseason
