Description
Looking at Kent Hughes’s work since 2022:

Trades Toffoli for a 1st (Mesar) and a 5th
Trades Chiarot for a 1st and a 4th.
Trades Lehkonen for Barron and a 2024 2nd.
Trades Kulak for a 2nd (Hutson, OMFG), and a 7th.
Trades Romanov, a 3rd and a 4th for Kirby Dach.
Trades Petry and Poehling for Matheson (OMFG) and a 4th.
Acquires Calgary’s 2025 1st round for taking one year of Monahan’s contract.
Retains salary on Bonino’s deal at last year’s deadline for a 5th.
Acquires Newhook for the pick we got for Chiarot and a 2nd.
Trades Edmundson for a 3rd and a 7th. Unfortunately he got hurt or that return would have been huge at last year’s deadline.
Trades $4.5mm Hoffman contract (1 year) for $2.3mm of Petry’s salary (for 2 years), Tanner Pearson, and a 2nd, 3rd, and a 4th, all in 2025.
Trades Sean Monahan for Winnipeg’s 2024 1st.

I agree. The question is what’s the right price. Pick number 12 in this year’s draft? Probably the right move for both teams.

I had to think about this for a bit
I think the right price is a Gamble in the CGY Pick
Top 3 Protect it and let them role the dice.

To me they have just as good a odds of getting a 4th-25th OA pick as CGY still a wildcard
They are retooling selling high and playing youth coupled with their Stellar Goaltending Depth
They're a few good prospects and a UFA signing from being a great team in 1-2 years time

That said they could also Huderdeau it again like their former GM did.
The question becomes what else ? IF im ANA where i am in their Rebuild
I'd want a bonafide stud Prospect back in turn and MTL really doesnt have anyone but Guhle who falls there.
I mean they have a Caufield and Suzuki type but need Fowler to train his replacement

It gives them a stacked Dcore on both sides with size who can replace their older Dman as their contracts expire organically
I think you'd also have to add a 2nd or a later pick and a prospect with the goal being a balanced equivalent of a 2nd round pick.

CGY's 1st
Guhle
2nd

or
CGY's 1st
Guhle
Kostenko(Russian AHL RD 25pts in 37 games with +11 playing top minutes on PP & PK)

Not saying i'd pay that as i dont agree with the Market Price but if im ANA thats what i'd ask for in their position.
For me as a MTL fans i'd offer them Matheson , and a 2nd round pick with a B+ Prospect at best like Kappanen
Let them flip Matheson down the road for a Profit

But really the Center market being what it is right now
ANA could RS on Zegras and get so much more based on the current TDL's lack of Supply to meet the demand.

Guhle wouldn’t be traded for Zegras straight up. It’ll be draft picks if Zegras gets moved. Keeps it simple also, which pick in next year’s draft do you think he’s worth?

Durzi went for a 2nd last offseason. And he was already signed at a below market contract.
1st for Zegras could be 4th overall. Or it could be 20th overall. The two are not the same.
Harris has more value than most people think. We’re overflowing at LHD right now. Someone gives us a 3rd in the off-season, minimum.

Someone will offer us a 2nd for Allen, but at that Price, I’d rather keep him.

exactly durzi went for a 2nd and has far surpassed expectations so why would AZ trade him for a 2nd? and he is 25yo RFA
zegras is 22yo, a '24 1st is 17yo so why would ANA drop 5 years and regress their rebuild back like that?
the proposal is a 2nd, not saying harris isnt good risk but at so far 18pt/82g career he is not a offensive D, 5'11 190 he is not physical D, I get have a surplus of LHD but doesnt mean get a 2nd

I think if you let it get to the offseason it might get iffy. If you can’t find a buyer for a 2nd by the deadline I’d think (I’m not a fortune teller just my thoughts) you’ll have to settle for a 3rd or prospect to avoid losing him to waivers

Disagree
Thats just what we're willing to pay
Thats ignoring what they can actually get.

22 year old Center who is in his 4 year pro with 2 Twenty Goal Seasons and 60+ point seasons.
We ask for more for Suzuki and he's done less in the same timeframe on a better team.
I like Suzuki a lot more as he's focus on gaining nearly 50lbs more in Muscle then Zegras who's the same height
As such Suzuki's still finding his balance while showing steady less flashy progress.
But Zegras has out done him simply because when he's on the PP he scores and when he's not he's just as effective 5v5 as Suzuki(again on a worse team)
Cant say that about Suzuki sadly.

You'll have LAK fans chime in soon
Durzi wasnt waiver exempt anymore and neither was Spence after this year
LAK were a deep team on RD and both got out played by Brandt Clarke the new stud RD LAK just got
Spence got sent down so Clarke could play and eventually Clarke went back to Junior for more minutes
But Spence still stayed down as all he'd be offered was the role Sean Walker and Durzi shared behind Anderson , Roy, Gavrikov and Doughty with Edler there to hold 3rd

"Well thats just opinion" im sure you'll say but BJornfot was just claimed off Waivers by VGK last month who was a Former 1st round pick of LAK that came with Durzi in the Muzzin deal
They moved on from Durzi so cheap as this year he woulda been plaing 13-14 minutes a night like Spence is now as Doughty eats up 25+ with Anderson, Gavrikov and Roy eating up 20-21 a night

yes this is all true, but what does it have anything to do with this current trade proposal. AZ got a steal because LAK were in a bind (and durzi has still increased his play this year) but then why would AZ trade durzi for the same return when they are not in a bind (and hes gotten better)?

So if MTL waited to sell on LAK and put themselves in that position , then i'd agree.
But Durzi's value like Harris was higher then a 2nd round pick then and now.
Its like when i wait until just before rent to offer people on Kijiji half of what their asking
I get something worth twice what i paid by exploiting idioits who didnt plan ahead.
Its Capitalism 101 and Basic Business for someone with the stomach for it
Bill Armstrong is just more Savvy then Rob Blake who waited until the end of the month

so why would AZ trade durzi for a 2nd (not even this year)? its a moot point they arent trading him for anything anyways, but that proposal was a joke.
