Description
I wonder if Habs would be interested in getting Patrick Laine on their team.

He is a top talent who needs some "MSL love". Pressure would be lower, he would not come in as the "savior" or the "guy we got for PLD".

He would get to work with younger guys and join a (apparently) very welcoming and fun locker room. Habs also have a lot of $ for player support.

As for the trade: I get Anderson is a cap dump for many- but in some way, Laine is overpaid right now. Also, Andy was quite loved in CLB and could be a decent option on a third line. He doesn't need to be included in the trade - habs have more than enough cap space. I just think we are out of a roster spot for him and CLB would probably welcome him back.

He would also bring some leadership and be a good role model in terms of his work ethic (which is something he's praised for in MTL despite his scoring drought - he keeps working hard, blocking shot and forechecking hard).

Habs would send a decent RHD prospect who still need polishing, a AHL LHD whos got potential, CGY's 2025 first round pick (propably top 10 next year) and a 2025 2nd round pick.

I understand that the offers vary wildly on AGMs when it comes to Laine - so this offer probably stands to improve. Let me know your opinion on the value.

I legitimately laughed out loud at the line that “pressure would be lower” in Montreal.

We are not competing for another 3 years. and he would come at the bottom at the barrel where the only way is up.

Market pressure is one thing v.s pressure to be "that guy". The market pressure is shared by the team... or the guy we hail as the hero - but on MTL - that is shared by Suzuki, Caufield, Dach, Slaf.

laugh Outside of Anderson that's massive overpay for a guy who usually misses about 50% of the season, And FYI Laine is on the NHLPAP so more than likely he's finished for the season or at least the next month.

It's for this offseason- it's a 2024-2025 AGM. Also, He's still a PPG guy.

You're not wrong. Columbus has one of the top hospitals in the US if you need some kind of medical treatment, OSU has an excellent mental health system, and the hockey market is quiet with very little pressure.

I am still agog that OP thinks there would be less pressure on a hockey player in Montreal than in Columbus.

Well - it's not confirmed that it is drugs. It seems to be mental health related.

I'm from Montreal - I'm well aware of the night life. But Laine looks "fragile" emotionnally more than anything and got bullied in WPG.

Yeah - but score a goal (like he can obviously do) at the Bell center on a Saturday night and it makes it all worth it.

Stop pretending like there is no vice outside of MTL... Finland is probably worse with Vodka.

Ohio has strippers... and the guys travel all across the USA. We are talking about a dude who was playing too much Fortnite ... hes no Galchenyuk lol.

Laine doesn't even drink alcohol. This is mental health. I mean, I guess it could be painkillers, especially with all the injuries, but I trust a Finn to be honest and his statement was very much about mental health. He's always been sensitive, and he's had a rough few years.

I know - I'm just reply to Robot man.

Weirdly too in MTL - the pressure is mostly from french journalist from RDS or TVA sport who have a lot of air time to fill only talking about the habs. So they often try to invent a problem to talk about it.

But Laine doesn't speak french - so it would not phase him.

Are you 14? Oh Boobies!

You think Laine, a 25 yo hockey player and millionnaires, needs to go to a strip club to touch girls?

That such a backward way of seeing things.

Of all the reason Laine should not go to MTL... that's probably the last.

also im sure ur aware but i want to add onto this for everyone here who might have missed it as a non CBJ fan: patrik is in year 2 of a pledge $1,000 for every point he records and the benefactor of that money is local mental health charities. he's also been working with them and the team to raise awareness and community donations as well. i know a handful of people personally who have signed up for a $29 per point pledge.

he's been a vocal champion of it ever since he lost his father. it'd get more attention if he and the team would have stayed healthy because he would have hit 75k donated last season and we wouldn't have been quite so bad.

I know - millionnaire or not - we can all hit rough patches in our life.

I didn't know he lost his father... that rough for any boy.
