Having a hard time figuring out what Detroit gets exactly out of this deal. Sprong has been one of the best bottom 6 players in the league this year.

That offer for Carrier gets beat. DIneen has less value than the pick NSH is adding.

Toews isn't playing this year, He already said he's taking a year off to reassess his future.

Detroit passes, No interest in trading Sprong. And definitely no interest in that mess from Edmonton.

Oh yeah.

Yzerman is taking a bunch of Oilers garbage.

Yeah that'll happen. 🙄

Does Holland have incriminating pics or Video of Yzerman he can blackmail him with? 😬

It's Yzerman who does the fleecing.

Remember when Yzerman traded Kyle Quincey to Detroit for a 1st?

I do.

Remember when that 1st (19OA) became Andrei Vasilevskiy?

I do. 🙄

One of the worst trades from a Wings perspective I have seen on this site in a while. Take Campbell who has years on a bad deal, Erne who we let walk and nothing much else and give us a good winger having a very good year and solve our cap issues.

Please shake your head and understand that Stevie is not doing this.

Awful trade for Detroit. Sprong is arguably our best bottom six guy and on a cheap contract. He'll be resigned, albeit for a raise, but a well deserved one

How much do you think Carrier, a 3rd pairing UFA D, gets in a trade? I['d say a 3rd round pick is about right. I'm not sure many teams will pay much more. He walks away for nothing this summer.
Of course, my biggest gripe with my trade proposal is that Detroit and Nashville might not be in sell mode and might make the playoffs. If they are in the hunt at the deadline they may hold onto all their UFAs making this trade a non-starter.

You may be right. If you separate the parts, how much do you think Detroit gets for Sprong at the deadline. This is, of course, assuming that they are sellers (which they very well may not be). He's a 4th line UFA winger. He may end up walking for nothing if they don't trade him at the deadline. Do they get a 4th round pick? I don't think they get a 3rd round pick for Sprong.

Eating Campbell's contract is another thing altogether. You may be right that they would have to give more than a 2nd round pick to take Campbell off their hands. Campbell is a Michigan kid (as is Gleason), so maybe coming back home is what they need to get back on track.

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if Yzerman and Holland do each other favours. Holland was Yzerman's GM for 8 years (and was on Detroit staff for 20 years of Yzerman's playing career) and then mentored Yzerman as VP of Hockey Operations for 4 years before Yzerman left for Tampa Bay. Then Holland was promoted to make room for Yzerman to come back as GM in Detroit. That's when Holland took the Oiler GM job.

I know they let Erne walk, but he was a popular player in Detroit and he did lead the team in goals in 2020-2021 (11 goals in 45 games), was 4th in points, and had one of the better +/- on the team when other top scorers were -14 to -18.

A 2nd and a 3rd, or two 2nds?

Desharneis hasn’t played bad to lose his spot in the lineup no need for carrier honestly we need to upgrade Ceci though on the top pairing

That would be great but there are no top 4 UFA RD on teams that will be sellers. I think Carrier is the best available. I think Carrier is an upgrade on Desharnais. And upgrade is an upgrade. Maybe Desharnais gets the nod for more physical teams.

This isn't simply and upgrade but also some insurance for injuries during the playoffs. I like Kemp but I don't think he's ready to face playoff hockey if one of Ceci, Bouchard, or Desharnais goes down. Broberg don't he right side isn't ideal either. Broberg can step in if one of Ekholm, Nurse, or Kulak go down.

Regurgitating facts about the connections between SY/KH and DET/EDM does nothing but add to a horrible sales pitch. Yzerman had his time with Erne in TB as well as Detroit. Elected to let him walk. Not wasting a positive asset in Sprong for three players that end up in Grand Rapids.

In regards to Soup and Gleason, why would Detroit want them? Soup demoted from the AHL starting job, Gleason is a LHD who would slot in probably as the 7-8 for the Griffins.

Essentially EDM reclaims cap, rids a horrible contract, improves tremendously with their secondary scoring / bottom 6 forwards, all at the cost of pick 55-60?

Meanwhile the Wings lose secondary scoring, bring in a bad contract, add another LHD who won't sniff the Wing lineup, and make their present and future more bleak..... WIN WIN right?

Honestly idk desharneis and kulak have been the best Bottom pairing in the league no need to break that up imo also carrier is 5’10 175 he’s not really built for the playoffs also has less experience then desharneis

Carrier's a solid 2nd pairing defenseman. Brunette does blend his lines in weird ways, but he's NSH's best right shot defenseman. He was Ekholm's usual partner, when they were on the same team.

I think Carrier would get a 3rd+ to a 2nd+, depending on the market at the deadline. Like you said in a later post on this thread, he might be the best UFA RD available. Even if his worth is only a 3rd, like you say, this is less than that.

I'd counter with a conditional 3rd that becomes a 2nd if EDM makes the conference finals, and a longshot prospect, like Wanner or Jonsson.
