More hoping we can convince liljegren to sign a low bridge deal to help with little salary room. As for Marchessault, it's more of hoping no one signs him for what he feels he is worth and signs a 1 year prove it deal similar to Bert. Still a low deal, but can't see any other way next year as we should not guarantee a roster spot for Minten or Cowan but make them prove they deserve one.

Prove it deal? 🤣

Marchessault has proven he can be a key piece on a Cup champion team. 🤔

You Leafs fans will say anything to support your fantasy land signings/trades. 🙄

Marchessault won the Conn Smythe trophy in last year's playoffs. 🤔

He's going to cash in big time.

Marchessault would be a year removed from being the playoff MVP + winning the Cup (assuming they don't win again) and he's on pace for 60+ points. There's no reason for him to take a trial deal that pays him less than he is getting now, especially considering he's 33. He'll probably look for a multi-year deal (probably 3-year at least) in the 5-7M range (around 7M if he's going to Toronto).

Probably will! With salary cap going up it is hard to say which players will cash in and which will take the prove it strategy. I do admit I am looking at players that seem to be scoring less this year versus previous years for he strategy and it is hard because with the salary cap going up. Teams will look at con Smythe, youth, etc ...

No argument hence the one year not much less but even still. With the salary going up, yes I can definitely see a team pony up a 3-5 year for 6 million or more.

A more realistic target for Toronto is Toffoli.

Tree knows him well.

He has 20 goals so far this season.

I did think about him and could work as a good winger to switch on top 3 lines.

Oh so why is Toronto getting him for 1 yr $4m? This is going in circles.

Give him what he is worth and don't pay Domi who is barely worth 10 mins/night.

Leafs fans on CFACGM don't want to throw young Minten to the wolves at 3C.

Apparently it's impossible for him to have a summer putting on muscle or having a great training camp. 🙄

They'd sooner play Domi who can't defend, takes dumb penalties and doesn't score much. 🙄

But he's Tie's son so he must be a Leaf. 🙄

To be fair, Minten did not look very good at the WJ's.

So his development has zero chance of improving?

Team Canada wasn't very good.

But let's blame it all on Minten. 🙄

Sign Domi!

Not what I am saying...I'm saying it's fair to say he could use more seasoning next year. Domi sucks.

There are ACGMs out there that have both Minten and Cowan making the team next year on the 3rd line. Seen it quite a bit actually, but it could all be from one guy, don't recall.

As for Domi, signing him might not be a bad idea depending on the AAV and term, he hasn't scored much but he has been setting up guys on his line for goals. On the other hand, though, the shortcomings that you mentioned make him a poor fit in both the top 6 and bottom 6 despite the chemistry that his line seemed to have. That being said maybe he should be the "trial LW" and get a look in the top 6 again next year. Robertson as well. If Minten (or Holmberg) holds down the 3rd line C position out of camp, I would move down Knies to play there, maybe they can rekindle the chemistry that they had in the preseason.

My idea with resigning Domi was to allow Minten to prove he belongs in lineup. If he proves he belongs he can move Domi to the wing and thus further solidifying the lineup better.

Out depth to improve needs our young players like Cowan, Minten, Niemella to prove to us they need a regular lineup spot.

We talked about this and yes I agree on Roy can be helpful. skjej has proven a better defender but he is a left side defender. The idea was to take McCabe off the left as he seems better on the right side.
That being said, Roy he a right shot defender that has a style of play that could be instant chemistry with Reilly.

I would not argue Roy over Skjej, benefits for both signings.

I am not against Gregor being resigned but lately as he plays more his advanced stats look worse and worse. Which shows he is more or less a 4 the liner. Yes he is great on the penalty kill and gives great speed to the fourth line. I was more making sure space is opened for Leafs Youth to have a space to fight for a roster spot.

Roy>skjej simply because he plays the right side and like you said would have instant chemistry with Reilly and LA can’t afford to resign him so he will be available

I don't argue out need for a right defenseman. We are going to be competing with several teams for defensemen. Even Skjej is a long shot. If Roy signs before, or we want a different balance that has better offensive upside, Skjej is better there overall.
Either signing to me to be very beneficial.for the Leafs next year.
