Goodrow is a cap dump but idk what the price would be for the NYR to move him. He’s not super expensive for a team as bad as the Sharks and I don’t think the Rangers would exactly cave when push comes to shove.

  1. Barabanov, Alexander

CONTINUED:

I think the Rangers would be ecstatic to replace Goodrow with two better players - who have no term for a cup run and allow them to assess their options in the summer for extensions / their future. They lose Goodrows 4 years for 2 better players and almost the same cap hit.

So a first seems like a prerequisite for the Sharks in this few (Goodrow -> Duclair 50% and Barabanov) - but feels light for the Sharks… what needs to be added?

I’m adding Jones but would a prospect like Sykora or someone be preferred?

Next I think Eklund needs to have his work loaded lightened so I’m moving him to 2LW, not as a demotion but as a microcosm of how bad the team is and wanting to not destroy him.

Jones would be good on your bottom pair with a defensive defenseman and QB either powerplay 1 or 2. He’s never been given a fair shot

Not sure what other prospect position Sharks need

Any help they can get lmao.

I’m interested in Sykora (think that’s spelt correctly), but he may be to valuable. I think Jones gives good competition to Thrun and Okho at this point and makes Shakir have to earn his spot.

I’m iffy on him right now. The NYR have a huge logjam at LW and Sykora wasn’t drafted for his skill, but for his motor, relentless forecheck, and pain to play against

That being said, it’s his 1st year playing in the AHL/North America as a 19 year old so he is probably a few years away from NHL ready

Also I think the organization is high on him? Not sure yet

Rangers are an instant yes imo. I’d expect they’d need one more piece going to SJ tho. Sykora is someone who’d I’d hate to part with, howver if I’m unloading Goodrow I’d have to seriously consider it. Rangers have RFAs to sign and this would allow them all without too much headache. The cap lift also would come into play where they could re-sign Duclair or Barabanov

Not saying the trades aren't good value, but I can't see Goodrow and his M NTC would include the Sharks as his new home.

I'd do these as SJ, even if slight tweaks are needed. XB would be nice to take a flier on and hope he turns into something.
SJ might need a little more from NY considering 2 solid mid 6 wingers and taking on 3 years of Goodrow, but I'd be fine with this return.

Why would it include San Jose - without looking we can assume it’s a 7-15 team list. Goodrows never played in Canada and NYR are the most North he’s played - but they’re NYR/MSG.

Tampa and San Jose were his previous homes and both cities loved him, and he loved his time in each (presumably). So we can assume (like with most NTC) atleast 5-6 Canadians teams are on his list. I’d argue the VAN and EDM or maybe the Leafs are the only cities that wouldn’t be included.

If it’s 7 I’d almost certainly bet SJ isn’t on it (the list is submitted preseason, so no inclination how bad SJ was going to be) - and if it’s 15… I’d say there’s a higher probability they aren’t on it or he probs waives then SJS being blocked. He’s got cups, he’s got money.

I’d take Sykora in a heartbeat if the Rags would rather keep Jones. I think the deal fits really well for the both teams so I hope Grier can make the “idea” become reality. I love it for the Rangers, but Yee they need to add - but San Jose needs to accelerate their rebuild so if the Sharks are stingy/ ignorant then we’re doomed. I’d love for Grier to ask for Goodrow + Perrault instead lmfao but idk if the Rags consider that at all.

Or not! Remember we gave him his first shot developed him and helped him become who he is! As a North American skater who is an UDFA it’s almost impossible to break into the NHL. He may have fond mementoes here.

I'm thinking of guy on last NHL contract really has no reason to leave a first place time for non playoff team. Plus, and it may/may not be a factor is the real easy travel schedule of Metro division especially the NY teams.

I 100% see where you’re coming from. My thought is he’s too good and valuable a player to consider Buy Out. But NYR need to shed cap to free up space for their pending RFA and a 4th liner making 3.6 mil is just not reasonable for them. And because he started his career here I am hoping he would at least consider coming back.
