Description
It appears that the value to buying out Campbell's contract is about a 1st and a 2nd/prospect. With this trade everyone gets the best out of a bad situation. Oilers get a 1B goalie who depending on their emotions can be great or broken but also be with an old friend (Manny Legace). Also get them a NHL level goalie basically as a "Future Considerations" instead of having expend draft capital on other options. Broberg gets a fresh start in a competition for an 3LD spots in the next two years as Provorov is just a merc to hold over Mateychuck but I can also see Bean moving on at the TDL for a cheaper option next year between Svoliz and now Broberg in this exercise. Columbus holds the bag and while they extend out their rebuild by probably a year gives them alot more Cap, especially as its rising to take out the trash and sign the good kids to better contracts. Also the blood price for Campbell is a 2025 1st instead of the 2024 one. This would allow the much more valuable 2024 pick to still be used to help reinforce a position of need like on the defense.

Also note to the Av's fans I tagged on this I really didn't put much thought into the Roslovic idea but I feel like he's a likely landing spot to help you get through the year as a potential break glass incase of emergency 2C option. Really I just wanted to see how the Blue Jackets cap situation looked like before buyouts of players and upcoming contracts for this summer.

The way Elvis is playing and with a larger $ amount than Campbell, I say Elvis has negative value too in a trade.

I can see the Oilers doing the first trade, potentially in the offseason, if it happens.
In my mind, Avs don't need Jack Roslovic.

Elvis’s negative value isn’t accounted for here. Just 1 year ago he was arguably as worse as Campbell at a higher cap hit. Very small sample size on his “recovery” this year. I wouldn’t do this trade.

A Campbell buyout and spending the savings on a cheaper goalie and smaller term goalie still makes more sense.

At that price with that retention for a rental Roslovic I think the Avs would certainly have to consider it.

The basis for the trade just makes sense, but I don't think we'll get quiiiite that much from Edmonton. IMO, drop Broberg, and make the 1st this year's, and that's enough.

If Columbus waits even one more year and buries Campbell or lets him play the Spencer Martin role next season, the buyout in 2025 is far more manageable. Maybe he even bounces back and we get a serviceable backup goalie for a couple seasons.
