Description
If Dallas is deciding to go all in on this year, would they be open to trading for Lindholm and Hanifin? (May be dependent on M-NTC and NMC).

Would Toronto be open to a Markstrom/Woll tandem as well as Chris Tanev swap for Brodie? (Also depends on M-NTC and NTC).

Comment down below your thoughts.

Trade Lindholm (25% RS) and Hanifin (25% RS) to Dallas for Radek Faksa, Ryan Suter, Mavrik Bourque, and 1st round pick 2024

Trade Markstrom (50% RS) and Tanev to Toronto for Ilya Samsonov, TJ Brodie, and 1st round pick 2024

Zero chance Suter waives to Calgary Lindholm and Hanifin retained are worth more than Bourque and a late 1st.

That Toronto trade is pretty bad. Tanev is worth the 1st by himself. Markstrom at 50% for 2 pending UFA's is a horrible return

The leafs probably do that trade for Markstrom alone strictly from a value perspective even if they don’t necessarily need him, but the whole point of getting Tanev is to add to a D core including Brodie, not replacing our second best defensemen

laugh laugh The trade for Hanifin and Lindhol is a royal joke, Bourque Faska who's a cap dump Ryan Suter who has already stated that he won't waive for Canada and a late 1st. Sorry not going to get the job done. Both traded separately get a far better offer than that.

Leafs trade is even worse, As i don't see Craig Conroy eating 50% on Markstrom for the next 2.25 years. Plus Brodie isn't waiving for Calgary. And Samsonov is just pure garbage.

As others have stated, Suter won’t waive. I don’t think Nill would trade him either. With Dallas matching up against either Wpg, Col, or maybe Nsh, I do think a deal for a defenseman will happen. Maybe depth veteran forward as well. We (Dallas) need to be a little more tidy.

No hes not lol get serious, Tanev is an aging pending ufa with injury history he isnt worth a 1st especially since brodie is involved its a lateral move for toronto at best and realistically we're just giving up players for an inconsistent goalie, a good defenseman thats worth a 2nd+ and dropping our 1st to pay samsonovs way out of toronto even though we can just send him down and ride out his contract

This isnt bad for the leafs in essence but just a lot of unnecessary pieces in the trade, we dont need markstrom because we can just send samsonov down and run woll/jones which is admittedly problematic but better than committing huge to Markstrom and tanev isnt worth a 1st hes probably like a 2nd, niemela, and a 4th from the leafs.
Brodie shouldnt be involved here, the leafs arent interested in getting rid of him because theres still gio and lagesson playing significant games+minutes

There is a very realistic chance Tanev returns a 1st or that in value this deadline if Calgary needs to retain on him to get the. Sure. In a vacuum Tanev and Brodie have similar value (edge Tanev) but the reality is Calgary has no use for Brodie.

Inconsistent goalie? Maybe you need to google the definition of that word because he is extremely consistent. He's been consistently fantastic all season long. If you aren't happy with my original breakdown of the trade then here's another. Retaining 50% on Markstrom for 2.5 years is worth the 1st alone. Brodie and Tanev have similar value so now we are missing the cost o taking on Samsonov and the cost of acquiring Markstrom at all

Markstrom got absolutely dogged on last season but yeah some team is going to overpay a 1st for tanev and it shouldnt be the leafs

Markstrom was bad for the most part of last season yes but he was consistently bad when he was preoccupied with the birth of his first child. Then after they were born he was consistently good to finish out the season.

You undervalue Tanev. He is an absolute warrior. The guy would take a bullet for you as a stranger and then ask if you're ok. One of the major reasons Calgary lost to Edmonton 2 years ago was Tanev missed the first 4 games of the series. I fully expect any trade involving him as a condition on his health (like a compensation pick if he misses 50% of playoff games or something).

You also over value draft picks. That 1st will almost certainly not be relevant to your teams success within their compete window. Especially with the way Treliving drafts. At least in the first round he pretty much never drafts anyone who is a boom or bust prospect. He prioritizes the prospects floor and their work ethic. Basically he wants a guaranteed NHLer 4-5 years down the line

These are pretty fair points and i do love tanev a lot but i just dont know how much id want to give up for him if im the leafs, theres more troubling issues at play for the leafs than just the defense and it goes all the way up and down the org and locker room, not sure if this is the year to buy in im not going to lie
