We are in a weird position. Competitive but not a sure thing. Inconsistency is our game at the moment.

A full on "team tank" is wrong for us and a full "buy" for the TDL is also wrong for us. Here I'm trying to maximize returns for pending UFAs that would resign with a new team while also bringing back players that can, hopefully, make an impact over a longer timeframe without sacrificing too much long term assets.

Hanifin trade with NJD would involve a 3rd team who takes the retention on Meier's cap hit, whomever it is gets a 3rd and Poirier. Though I understand 8 years of 1.5 retention is a bit of a stretch even with a top prospect and a 3rd.

We have tried literally everything with Huby with what we have on our current roster and a new face who is a but more of a power forward with dynamic offensive potential might work out here. Yegor has more than established himself here and I hope he's around long term.

Plus there is cap space if Shilly is able to come back; we're all hoping he figures things out.
