He's a player who can be useful if a team has a Kubalik shaped hole, but he's next to useless in the 3rd line role he's currently in. The Sens have Joseph and Greig, who are both fast, tenacious, defensively responsible and opportunistic offensively. They get their offensive chances from speedy transitions and from going to work digging pucks out. Kubalik has an unreal shot, and he's not a cement head, but his overall game just doesn't compliment what Ottawa needs.

He's a goal scorer. If a team has a space in the lineup for a fairly one dimensional shooter and can support that skillset, he can go and almost certainly score more than he has here. But Ottawa just doesn't have a spot for him in a role he's suited for, and he's not a player who's gonna help them when he's tasked with being something else.

Very basically, it's a visualization chart showing a players on ice impact on expected goals, and where those expected goals are coming from. For context, a +0% would be considered average, and a negative would be considered good. Essentially, red means there's a higher expected goal rate generated while they are on the ice, and blue means a lower rate, relative to a lease average.

Kubalik is terrible defensively, but Vrana is basically doubling up on him. Extremely terrible
