I appreciate the feedback. Just more information on why I thought this wasn't the worst idea.
Oilers: McDavid has played 9 years and yet to reach a finals. Instead of trying to win with an average goalie and great forwards, I thought they might want to try with a top 5 goalie in the world and McDavid just once before he retires.
Sabres: They haven't made the playoffs in 13 years. The captain is 35 on an expiring contract. The trade wouldn't be made without an 3 year or more contract extension with Stamkos, who would now be 2 hours away from his hometown and be the captain for the next three years in Buffalo. They might even improve enough to make the playoffs just from the upgrade of Stamkos (10G and 16A) vs Okposa (3G and 4A). It doesn't cost them anything off their current lineup.
Lightning: The core has taken you as far as they can. It is time to try and get some younger star assets.
This will never happen but it was just the reasoning on why both sides would be motivated by these trades.
