Weegar was moved in the off-season. Carolina tried to move Pesce in the off-season but didn't like the offers. It's not normal for a contender to move a topp 4 defensemen or any significant piece in the regular season especially for rentals.

That's not going to get Pesce. A trade that has Pesce going to Toronto would very likely be something along the line of Pesce+ for Nylander or Marner
