Description

Team Canada if we were to get a Best on Best Tournament Today:

I have tried to keep guys who do or have played together with each other.

Scratch, IR, and LTIR Slots are other guys who would get consideration and in some cases I would be open to arguments for some guys over ones I have.

Forwards:
-McTavish is an excellent young player doing a lot for a not very good ducks team and I think he would get a look with team Canada, not necessarily on the top line but I feel he has the speed and hockey sense to work with McDavid and Mac.
-Bedard gets brought along for sure, he would start as the 13th forward but could move his way up the lineup as the tournament went on
-Couturier and, Stone make the team mainly because of their strong play in their own end even though they are good enough offensively to play with anyone you need guys that can effectively kill penalties and Reinhart gets a shot because of his performance over the last year and a half

D-Men:
-Morrissey might be the best left handed Canadian D-man right now and he gets a shot to play with Makar who is probably the best D-man in the world
-Vegas just won a cup and they are near the top of the league again might as well bring their top 2 D along especially with Theodores bomb from the point for powerplays
-Chabot and Ekblad round out the top 6, people might take issue with Chabot and he might be the toughest pick here, could have been a million guys but outside of him i think the rest of the Top 5 are pretty set.
-Power Makes the team as the 7th D he's eating minutes in Buffalo and is likely a big part of the future of Team Canada so he comes for experience

Goalies:
-I have carter hart starting, he's suffering in Philly getting peppered each night but has played really good hockey this year. I think with a great D-core that Canada would have he would shine.
-Binnington and Aiden Hill have both been great so far this year and they bring Championship pedigree and know how to win when games get tough

Disagree with a couple things from your write up

•Neither Scheifele or Horvat are strong defensive players

•Toews is probably Canada’s best LHD and he also has chemistry with Makar, so he should be here. Bump Morrissey down and take Chabot out imo

Apart from that this is pretty good, although I think Reinhart deserves a spot with how good he’s been this year, and Dougie Hamilton should probably be here as well (guessing you forgot about him as he’s not included in the lower list of players who didn’t make it for you).

I might put Chychrun and Giroux in as well personally, but those are closer calls

You made some good points, while i think you were harsh on the level of defensive play you can get from Horvat and Schief I agree there could be other options and I agree that the way reinhart has been playing he would deserve a shot so I changed the 4th line around a bit bringing in Couturier and Reinhart and taking out the guys above.

I disagree on the defense, don't get me wrong I like Toews and yes he is Makars partner i think as an individual player he isn't as good as the other guys on this list. I see him more as a Jake Muzzin, a solid player in his own right but his profile is carried by his partner (in Muzzin's case doughty) who is one of the best D in the world. I think in a best on best you put your best guys together and in this case thats Makar and Morrissey based on the way Morrissey has played over the past 2 years. Think Weber and Doughty, they could have brought Muzzin because him and Doughty were good together but Weber was better than Muzzin and Weber-Doughty ended up being the best pairing at 2 straight Olympics.

There are guys who I would hear arguments for replacing Chabot on D but I don't think Chych is one of them
