Caps won't pay a 1st for Monahan. IF it goes, it's for a young top 6 F.

As long as the Caps have Ovi their objective will be the cup, a young top 6F does not have the immediate impact needed to help them do that, and if they do the price will be too steep to pay

Caps easily decline. Monahan is not worth a 1st and Caps already have too many middle 6 forwards

As others have pointed out, this is a hard no from the Caps. Monahan at best is a good 3C? That's not a 1st so Caps aren't paying that. Even on top of that they are loaded at center (Strome, McM, Kuz, Dowd with Lapierre playing as well). They aren't moving a 1st unless it involves a young top 6 player.

I, too, look at the Washington capitals and say “this team is a Sean Monahan away from winning another cup.”

He's not a 1C for sure but youd be very wrong to call him a 3C at best. Middle 6 maybe. Also all these centers can play the wings, like Mony can



Its not about him being the tipping point to the cup, its about him being a piece which helps give the caps a chance. He is still a very effective player, he carries every line he is on for the habs and his production has been very good considering his most common linemates are Pearson and Gally. He also brings face off wins (caps currently ranked 30th in FOW%) which you need if you want to get anywhere.

Now a 1st might be much, fine, all fans overvalue their players. A middle ground could be a 2nd though?

Objectively, that's probably a fine price for Boqvist. If it's all the same to MTL, I'd like to see the 3rd be in 2024, just so there's an outside chance that pick contributes in the next few years as the competition window is theoretically opening, especially since MTL is getting an NHL defenseman now and has the same idea for a competition window.

Personally...I think it's selling low on a talented offensive defenseman that hasn't been given a fair shake. Any Boqvist trade now bites us in a year or two IMO.

A "maybe" middle 6 does not get you 1st. Maybe a 3rd, probably a 4th. But again, Caps are set everywhere except a young top 6 player, they don't need anymore maybe middle 6 players.
